World Vision South Khartoum seeking to recruit qualified Food Security and Livelihood Manager based in Khartoum State.


PURPOSE OF POSITION     To provide strategic leadership and technical support in

1.Development and implementation of WVS strategy on livelihoods which directly supports all aspects of Child Wellbeing by addressing the underlying drivers of child poverty, food / nutrition insecurity and vulnerability to climate and disaster risk.

2.Providing leadership to design and scale up interventions focus on empowering households and communities to graduate the poorest households with children out of extreme poverty by developing productive and resilient livelihoods enabling them to feed, care for and educate their children from infancy to productive adulthood.

3.Effective integration of FSL interventions and project models in WVS programs with complementary positive family/gender relations, economic

Program Execution: Lead process of generating and integration NO livelihood and Food Security interventions into Grants and PNS projects designs as well as in overall NO strategic planning and execution processes that:

  • Support development of sustainable livelihood security and value chain development interventions
  • Support generation of Innovations in FSL build on best global practices, transformation of subsistence farming etc and ensure lessons learnt are mainstreamed in regular WVS programming
  • Promote operational research in FSL tracking impact, publishable reports and systematic documentation
  • Promote and establish improved agricultural productivity through sustainable and climate smart agriculture development
  • Promote Disaster management approaches such as Community Based Disaster Risk Reduction (CBDRM)
  • Ensure WV staff are tasked and /or local partners are monitored to undertake livelihood programming as detailed in implementation plans
  • Undertake Operational review to WV and local partners programs to ensure project implementation is in alignment with financial and administrative procedures and policies
  • Coordinate closely with all sector specialists to ensure cross-sector integration of programming at the field level
  • Ensure WVS projects promote local Capacity for Peace and take into considerations Protection issues
  • In coordination with and other stakeholders, ensure livelihood/ food security and livelihood assets development are well planned, coordinated and monitored




Grant Acquisition and Management:

  • To provided technical advice, working closely with GAM Director, in developing competitive proposals for Food Security & Livelihood interventions, Climate Change adaptation, Environment, and economic empowerment
  • Ensure that projects are designed with agricultural technology package aimed at creating self-sufficiency, as well as enhancing the food security status of farmers households/local communities
  • Ensure that Technical leadership is provided in the development of livelihood activities including income generation, cash for work, market development, livestock and climate change adaptation as prioritized by communities and local authorities through technical best practices and targeted training



Capacity Building: Provide technical support to WVS staff in relevant FSL Project models and a social empowerment approach known as Empowered Worldview (EWV) as required

  • Ensure that enhanced DRR and Rangeland Management techniques are well understood at the community level, among WVS staff, with partner agencies, government Institutions and other external partners
  • Tools developed to promote enhanced DRR and Rangeland Management training created
  • Communities trained in innovative water entrapment techniques
  • Identify WV Sudan staff training needs identified and resources allocated to ensure professional development



Networking and Representation

  • Support effective internal networking and linkages with other relevant departments/entities in the NO, RO contributing to FSL
  • Representation of World Vision to external stakeholders in UN bodies, INGOs fora, government policy boards and regional bodies units charged with DRR
  • Promote World Vision contribution to the global agenda on sustainable livelihood development
  • Build a strong working relationship with relevant government ministries

Establish and cultivate strategic engagements and partnerships with  Faith Leader and other Faith Based organizations for contribution to child wellbeing and outcomes


Quality Assurance and Reporting

  • Coordinate timely and quality preparation and submission of Quarterly, Semiannual & Annual plans and budgets of FSL Grants & PNS


  • In collaboration with DME unit, coordinate and ensure timely and quality submission and uploading in horizon semi Annual and Annual reports of the FSL Grants and PNS
  • Consolidate monthly, quarterly and annual FSL divisional reports
  • Ensure that baseline data on existing farming systems and water management techniques is updated for use in assessing the impact of WVS project interventions
  • Working closely with the Operations Department and Finance to ensure donor report are prepared timely and with expected standards quality for submission for donor
  • Prepare FSL sector monthly, Quarterly, Semiannual and Annual Reports and submit timely
  • Ensure that lesson learnt through monitoring and evaluation are captured, capitalized and incorporated into future proposal designs

Perform any other duty as may be assigned by supervisor or designee from time to time.


 Minimum Qualification, Skills and Experience Required:


Required Professional Experience

  1. At least five years’ experience in Program Management level working in International Development Organizations, or Humanitarian industry
  2. Proven ability to conceptualize, innovate, plan and manage programs as well as transfer knowledge and skills.
  3. Must have proven analytical, problem solving skills and ability to work with minimum supervision.
  4. Proven ability to cultivate long term partnerships at State or National level
  5. Proven Proposal writing skills and people management skills


Required Education,

  1. Master Degree in Agriculture, Agri-business, Community Economic Development, Agricultural Economics, Environmental Science, Natural Resource Management (NRM) or related field.

  2. Must have good interpersonal and communication skills willing to FSL programs to donors, collaborating stakeholders and WV marketers

  • The position requires ability and willingness to travel domestically and internationally up to 20% of the time.
