Finance Officer
Relief International

Relief International (RI) is an international non-governmental organization US and UK based, working in the humanitarian field since 2004 in Sudan, providing emergency relief and early recovery activities to internally displaced persons (IDP) and rural communities, focusing in lifesaving health and nutrition services. RI is looking for qualified candidates to fill the vacancies mentioned herewith


 Duty Station: Khartoum – Sudan (with Travel in field)

 Background:

SUMMARY:

Working under the overall responsibility of the Sr. finance officer the (position) will be responsible for accounting and documenting all financial transactions for the project including ensuring that all RI procedures are followed.


 



 
 Duties and responsibilities:

  • Ensuring all receipts, bills, policies, invoices, and statements as required.
  • Controlling the expenses in light of the approved budget by the donors
  • Ensure petty cash payments/bank payments are paid against adequate and accurate supporting documentation, duly approved by FM and CD and as per cash policy
  • Receipt all monies received and ensure timely banking
  • Enter all monthly transaction in RI financial accounting system. (NetSuite)
  • Check and transfer monthly payroll of staff from bank.
  • Update cash and bankbooks on a weekly basis.
  • Ensure that all RI resources are accurately utilized for the best interest of the organization   
  • Ensure all backup documentation for bank payments/receipts is properly organized and filled for complete transparency and audit purposes.
  • Checking and verification of all payment documents as per the RI policies and initiating payments.      
  • Timely investigation of fraud cases and its reporting to supervisor
  • Preparation of monthly financial reports.
  • Handle queries by service providers/ venders relating to payments. Reconciliation of supplier accounts that have queries
  • Maintain finance files and ensure that documents are filed correctly and in a timely manner.
  • Maintain monthly schedules for staff advances and liaise with staff members to ensure surrendered in a timely manner or recovered from payroll.
  • Assist Sr Finance officer in internal and external audits.
  • Scan all back up documents and save on Box.
  • Ensure field offices having sufficient funds to run the program and timely inform to Sr Finance officer.
  • Record all incoming wires/funds in RI financial systems.
  • Ensure all program and project staff are implementing RI field accounting policies accurately
  • Responsible for reviewing all Purchase request and payments and inform Sr finance officer review outcome.
  • Preparation of monthly bank reconciliations and cash   reconciliations.
  • Responsible for safe custody of vendor cheque and handover to relevant vendor.
  •  Preparation of vendor payments.
  • Any other task assigned by supervisor

 Minimum Qualification, Skills and Experience Required:

  • A Master Degree/Bachelor’s degree in Finance or a related field.
  • Minimum of three (2) years of applicable technical and professional experience. An appropriate combination of education and work experience may fulfill these requirements. NGO experience will be preferable.
  • Demonstrated leadership and management ability and effectiveness in team-oriented work environments.
  • Ability to work independently, to be able to accept and discharge substantial responsibilities, to prioritize work assignments, to meet deadlines, and to exercise professional judgment.
  • Strong organizational and prioritization skills.
  • Must be fluent in English and Arabic, and be able to write clearly and concisely in both languages.
  • Proficiency in computer skills, particularly with programs such as MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Human Relation skills, including integrity and ability to work with minimum supervision and under pressure preferred.
