Introduction to the Country Office:

Norwegian church Aid is in Sudan since 1972 and works in the fields of relief, rehabilitation, and development, and works through national partners.
NCA’s Country Office is currently in Port Sudan. It has a Field Office in Al-Gadarif, Al-Gadarif State, where its projects activities encompass GBV, Climate Resilient WASH, Climate Smart Economic Empowerment, and Health. As well, its projects activities in Kosti, White Nile State are implemented by the national partners

 Background:

NCA is looking for a young journalist with excellent English and Arabic skills and experienced in social media platform who creates communication content on behalf of the organization, develops blog content and creates social media posts..

 



 
 Duties and responsibilities:

  • Provide support in conveying up-to-date information about NCA country programs to internal and external audience.
  • Lead in preparing and producing publications and content crucial for the organization’s work for internal and external use.
  • Capacity building and Networking
  1. Main Tasks:
  • Support the management in preparation of press releases and responding to media enquiries.
  • Review and edit various communication materials. 
  • Review private and other donor communication requirements and advice staffs;
  • Work in close cooperation with the management, programs and PMER/Grants manager to develop and implement the organization’s communications activities;
  • Review all public relations opportunities for appropriateness;
  • Develop and control the message contained in print or broadcast features;
  • Network and work closely with information and communications department at NCA HO;
  • Creating and developing key organizational development and programmatic updates for NCA websites;
  • Document change stories and images of NCA E’S contribution in development and emergency response.
  • Oversee NCA E’S communication strategic plan and revise as needed
  • Proofreading publications, review and quality assure materials prepared by other departments for accuracy and image;
  • Oversee development of key materials for the organization to include in reports, networks, and for other visibility purposes;
  • Support program staff in report writing and editing;
  • Produce newsletters, brochures, and fact sheets;
  • Travel to NCA supported program /project areas to gather stories, pictures and videos on program activities;
  • Support NCA country office in ensuring key events, and workshops are documented;
  • Prepare printed, web-based and audio-visual publication and printing materials.
  • Build NCA and Partner capacity in writing change stories.
  • Support programs and partners on NCA communication strategy and visibility standards;
  • Support NCA program staffs sharing best practices and key achievements to various networks;
  • Attend information requests that may come from various networks and forums;
  • Make content for social media, like video, pictures and change stories. Implement a social media strategy for Sudan based on the global social media strategy for NCA.

 

Other Duties/Functions Assigned to the Position:

  • The communication officer supports the country office and serves as a key contact person for communication & information requests of NCA country program.
  • She/he will be responsible for overseeing the collection of information and developing communication materials to be shared to relevant/various target groups and NCA-platforms that highlight NCA program activities and results, which will involve consistent field travel to project areas.
  • The position also supports operations study and documentation of results in a way that attempts to maintain a positive image of NCA.
  • The communication officer is expected to be flexible and be able to give assistance with different activities not included in this primary job description as per direction from immediate supervisor.

All NCA employees are expected to be team players, flexible and willing to contribute to NCA in other areas that may not be specifically defined in their Job Description at the direction of their Line Manager.


 
 Minimum Qualification, Skills and Experience Required:

  1. Bachelor's degree in communications or journalism.
  2. 2+ years prior experience in a communications or marketing role Understand the best practices of main social media channels including Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Pinterest, etc
  3. Must possess exceptional writing skills and be able to compose engaging and accurate content Strong communicator who works well independently and with a team.
  4. Superior time management skills and the ability to juggle multiple projects simultaneously Knowledge of Adobe PhotoShop, InDesign, and Illustrator is an asset.
  5. Understanding of communications, public relations and marketing best practices.
  6. Ability to think strategically and identify ways to improve communication efforts.
  7. Must be resourceful and take initiative even when given minimal direction.
