ROLE PURPOSE:

Emergency Response Midwife will be fully embedded into the Emergency Response Unit of SCI Sudan based in Field a rotational basis depending on need, with the possibility of deployment to any other parts of SCI Operational zones. Will have overall responsibility for patient care in her particular professional areas with flexibility to work in other disciplines. The Emergency Response Midwife will be responsible for the management of patients in Maternal and Child Health clinics, inpatient wards and patients in isolation wards like CTC and participating in mass vaccination campaigns. Will also be expected to participate in responding to disasters like disease outbreaks, floods, drought and population displacement

SCOPE OF ROLE:

Role Dimensions:

• The Emergency Response Midwife will be working in mobile and static MCH clinics, isolation wards, CTC, SAM Treatment centres etc. for 8 or longer hours in a day depending nature of the emergency response and the on the discretion of the Line Manager.
• She / He will carry out any other duties assigned to her or him by the Line Manager including being the focal point for Child Safeguarding when deployed outside SCI operational areas

Reports to: Emergency Health Unit Lead

Number of direct reports:

• Junior staff (e.g. Community midwives, Nurse Assistants etc.) who may be integrated into the emergency response team or who work in health facilities where this Midwife may be deployed.

Work with Emergency Team:

Nurses, WASH Officer, CP Officer and Nutrition Officer

KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:

• Provide direct care to mother at ANC /PC and at time of deliver y
• Carry over ANC clinics
• Train local community midwifes and build their capacity

QUALIFICATIONS and EXPERIENCE

Minimum Qualification, Skills and Experience Required:

Essential

• Registered or Enrolled Midwife Certificate.
• Good Observation, Judgement, Counselling and Communication Skills.
• Patient Focused Approach and a Pleasant Personality.
• Team work and relation building skills.
• Previous experience in emergency response work

Desired: 

• Willingness to be based in the field with limited basic amenities
• Previous experience in emergency response

Ability to operate in insecure environment and abide by Save the Children security regulations
