 Background:

Job creation and vocational qualifications are key in Germany’s development cooperation with Sudan. In 2020, Germany’s Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) commissioned Deutsche Gesellschaft für internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) to implement the “Employment Initiative Khartoum: Perspectives for the Future for Refugees and Host Communities”. The initiative works to enable the private sector, vocational training institutions and entrepreneurs to create a better future for refugees and local communities in Khartoum. The objective is to help improve employment conditions for these target groups in the state. The programme therefore runs various measures for vocational qualification and employment promotion.



 
 Duties and responsibilities:

A.    Responsibilities

Under the direct supervision of the Logistic Professional, the Driver is responsible for:

 

  • Safely and responsibly performing all official travel using official vehicles
  • Regularly servicing and looking after official vehicles

 

The Driver performs the following tasks:

 

B.    Tasks

  • Provide passenger transport in an official car for office, project or programme staff, official visitors and guests
  • Run errands for the project, programme or office, e.g. sending letters and messages, paying bills and buying smaller quantities of office supplies
  • Help with transporting goods
  • Complete the vehicle log correctly and conscientiously in accordance with GIZ standards
  • Cleaning the interior and exterior of the vehicle(s) regularly
  • Checking oil, water, brakes and brake liquid, tyre pressure, battery levels and the entire vehicle, monthly, headlights, brakes, bodywork for dents etc. 
  • Assuming responsibility for the project vehicle documents and their good condition, keeping a vehicle log and recording monthly maintenance
  • Reporting need for service and carries out minor repairs
  • Reporting immediately all involvement of project vehicles in accidents, including minor accidents, damage, loss or theft of vehicle fittings
  • Performing other duties and tasks at the request of management


 
 Minimum Qualification, Skills and Experience Required:

  • at least 1-3 years’ professional experience in a comparable position
  • Secondary school education
  • Hold a valid driver’s licence
  • Technical knowledge of a vehicle and engine is a plus
  • Professional experience: at least 3 years’ work experience as a driver with references 
  • No major accident in the past 3 years
  • Good knowledge of Arabic and English, ability to read and write in English
  • Discipline and punctuality
  • Resilience and patience
  • Familiarity with Khartoum State
  • Appropriate appearance and attire
  • Ensure unrestricted availability of vehicles at all times and report restrictions immediately
  • Willingness to upskill as required by the tasks to be performed – corresponding measures are agreed with management
