Health and Nutrition Supervisor

 Background:

The Health and Nutrition Supervisor shall work in close collaboration with and as delegated by the Health and Nutrition Coordinator in performing all his/her duties. He/she will work in ensuring full implementation of the BHA and WFP funded projects in West Kordofan State, which will be implemented El Salam, Debab and Abzabad localities.  He/she will also work closely with the State Ministry of health officials at locality levels in ensuring quality implementation of health and nutrition programs.



 
 Duties and responsibilities:

Supervise all the aspects of Primary Health care in collaboration With SMOH:

  • Assist the Health and Nutrition Coordinator in monitoring of clinical, preventative and promotional activities in MOH Static health facilities.
  • Supervise and Monitor activities in the targeted health facilities and outreach health services in all areas of operations.
  • As assigned by the Health and Nutrition Coordinator, carry out supervisory visits and on the job trainings for clinical staff at the health facilities outreach sites.
  • As part of the team, support a quality referral system from community outreach/PHC structures to referral centers and hospitals
  • Ensure the use of established reporting frames for data collection, analysis and report to partners and other agencies as required.
  • Ensure the appropriate management of drugs, medical materials and equipment at all the health facility outreach levels.
  • Representation of concern in technical forums at locality levels.
  • Ensure that all components of PHC are working well including EPI, Reproductive health, Disease surveillance, among others.
  • Work in close conjunction with the Health and Nutrition Coordinator to define the roles and responsibilities of clinic health staff and participate in performance evaluation.
  • Ensure there is proper management of patients at the health facilities and outreach levels and referral of cases requiring further management.
  • Participate in the designing of public health awareness campaigns and institute their use to include disease outbreak response.

Reporting and Data management:

  • Collect all necessary health data from the health facilities and outreach clinics in collaboration with the MOH.
  • Work with the Health and Nutrition Coordinator  to ensure that all medical records and reports are accurate,
  • Collect health outreach data from the Community health extension workers and volunteers on community health education.

Community Health education and Behavior change communication.

  • In collaboration with SMOH establish networks of community workers to help plan priorities and disseminate health information.
  • Supervise the Community health extension workers as well as the Community volunteers in ensuring all the health outreach activities are performed in line with international standards.
  • Ensure quality delivery of health education activities in the communities in designated areas of the community.

Other Duties

  • Carry out all other duties as reasonably assigned to you by your supervisor
  • Be flexible to carry out other duties as assigned by your supervisor.

 Minimum Qualification, Skills and Experience Required:

Essential

1.      Education

·       Diploma in the field of health sciences (Clinical Medicine, Nursing, or Public Health) with At least two (2) years’ of experience in Maternal and Child Health and Nutrition programming in emergency context (preferably within a clinic and/or NGO setting).

2.      Job related Experiences

·       Experience in needs assessments, surveillance, surveys, and information management

·       Experience in training and supervising nutrition workers

·       Experience in implementing health and nutrition programs

·       Excellent Arabic & English communication skills (oral and written)

·       Good understanding of the Sphere relief standards.

·       Must be computer literate

·       Ability to take initiative

·       Willingness to travel to project areas with possibility of overnight stays.

 

Desirable

  • Strong collaborator with effective inter-personal and analytic skills
  • Able to work effectively under pressure and handle workload.
