Background: The Position is part of the Project that aims to contribute to the political empowerment and increased capacity of individual women’s activists as well as women’s groups and networks in two states in Sudan. The Project will contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals, specifically Gender Equality (#5), Reduced Inequalities ((#10) and Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions (#16).
The Project is planned to be implemented in Khartoum and South Darfur States, based on considerations such as the existence of qualified female activists and women groups who can benefit from such an intervention to enhance their skills and prominently take a lead role in political processes and existing complementary activities of CARE and partner organizations. Khartoum state specifically was selected because of its political weight as the nation’s capital which hosts some of the best qualified potential women leaders, political parties, unions, etc. Impact from this type of initiative could be easily measured in Khartoum as opposed to other parts of the country. Moreover, Khartoum offers the possibility of upscaling and/or replicating successful pilots. This possibility is owed to the ease in building networks with other states where these pilots could be easily repeated.
