This job opening is being advertised for advance planning purposes pending formal approval of the relevant funding and staffing structures.  Duties and responsibilities:

These two (2) positions are located in the United Nations Integrated Transition Assistance Mission in Sudan (UNITAMS). The United Nations Security Council adopted resolution 2524 (2020) authorizing the mandate of UNITAMS which is to assist the political transition, progress towards democratic governance, in the protection and promotion of human rights, and sustainable peace; support peace processes and implementation of future peace agreements; assist peacebuilding, civilian protection and rule of law, in particular in Blue Nile and South Kordofan (the Two Areas) and Darfur; and support the mobilisation of economic and development assistance and coordination of humanitarian assistance.

One (1) position is based in El Fasher, Sudan. The position is located in the Mission Support in El Fasher (Darfur Hub)/Medical Services. The incumbent will report to the Medical Officer.

One (1) position is based in Kassala, Sudan. The position is located in the Mission Support Centre in Kassala. The incumbent will report to the Medical Officer.

Responsibilities:

Within the limits of delegated authority, the Nurse will be responsible for performing the following duties:

 

  • Responds to emergency calls and assists doctors in providing adequate care and performing respective duties in the treatment of the patient.
  • Performs ECG, and other medical exam such as blood tests; glucose, troponin, and urine test as required.
  • Prepares patient for different interventions and escorts patient to other medical facilities as required.
  • Assesses needs of clients visiting the walk-in clinic; provides care/advice (e.g. the benefits of preventive medicine, etc.).
  • Performs nursing care and generally all activities related to his/her professional capacity.
  • Responsible for emergency room and doctor's consultation rooms, ensures that all equipment is ready for use and functional e.g. Defibrillator, ECG machine, glucometer, etc.
  • Ensures safety of the patients in performance of duty.
  • Communicates with patients and updates the doctors in the clinic.
  • Accords patients fair and equal treatment regardless of ethnic background.
  • Assists in providing health education and addressing work environment and occupational health issues.
  • Actively contributes in planning and organizing preventive medical fairs.
  • Works in the walk-in Fever screening clinic and the nursing facility.
  • Receives patients and records the necessary data for effective treatment.
  • Maintains patients’ records and exercises confidentiality.
  • Replaces the receptionist whenever required.
  • Keeps the clinic’s statistics.
  • Updates the monthly medical report.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

 


 
 Minimum Qualification, Skills and Experience Required:

Education: Completion of high school and further formal education/training in nursing such as registered Professional Nurse designation or equivalent is required.

Work Experience: A minimum of seven (7) years of progressive clinical experience in the medical field and hospital is required.

A minimum of three (3) years of experience in Nursing Care is required.

Experience in emergency or intensive care is desirable

Experience in the United Nations system or a comparable international organization is desirable.

Languages: English is the working language of the United Nations Secretariat. For the advertised positions, fluency in English is required. Fluency in Arabic is required. Knowledge of another UN official language is desirable.

Assessment:

Evaluation of qualified candidates may include a written assessment followed by a competency-based interview.
