 Duration: six (6) months during the period 1st December 2020 to 31st May 2021. The contract is renewable based on good performance and the availability of funds.

 Background:

UNEP Sudan is implementing a second phase of the Wadi El Ku Integrated Catchment Management project in North Darfur with support from the European Union. The purpose of this second project phase is to extend and scale up successful interventions, based on the first phase of the project, with the aim of improving local community livelihoods and stemming the negative cycle of environmental degradation and social tensions in the Wadi El Ku. Phase 2 will expand the geographic coverage of planned interventions both upstream and downstream of the initial project intervention area and build on and enhance the role of the Catchment Management Forum to assume a more comprehensive watershed management approach.

The overall objective of the second phase of the project is to establish climate resilient livelihoods and reduce natural resource conflicts in North Darfur. The specific objective of the project is to further improve natural resource use and management in Wadi El Ku. Concretely, the project will aim to sustain increases in agricultural yields and related value chain productivity over the long-term while safeguarding ecosystem integrity and improving social cohesion.

To support the successful delivery of the project, the project team is seeking a second qualified and dedicated Driver to facilitate field visits and errands in El Fasher. At the same time, the Driver takes great care of the assigned vehicle(s).



 
 Duties and responsibilities:

Ultimate Results of the Service:

The Driver provides reliable and safe driving services ensuring high accuracy of work on a day-today basis in El Fasher and whilst on mission in the field. The Driver demonstrates a client-oriented approach, high sense of responsibility, courtesy, tact and the ability to work with people of different national and cultural backgrounds.

Objectives:

The Driver will support the WEK-2 project team in El Fasher to deliver the expected results in an efficient and effective manner.

Deliverables:

  • Reliable and secure driving services;
  • Proper use of the assigned vehicle;
  • Day-to-day maintenance of the assigned vehicle;
  • Availability of documents;
  • Availability of supplies and scheduling of maintenances and repairs.

Specific tasks and responsibilities

The duties and responsibilities of this position are as follows:

  • Drive office vehicles for the transport of authorized personnel and delivery and collection of mail, documents and other items;
  • Meet official personnel and visitors at the airport and arrange visa and customs formalities when required;
  • Ensure cost-savings through proper use of the assigned vehicle, accurate maintenance of daily vehicle logs, provision of inputs to preparation of the vehicle maintenance plans and reports;
  •    Utilize the security equipment installed in the vehicle in the appropriate manner;
  • Ensure proper day-to-day maintenance of the assigned vehicle through timely minor repairs, check of tires, brakes, car washing, etc.:
  • Ensure availability and keeping of all the required documents/supplies including vehicle insurance, vehicle logs, office directory, map of the city/country, first aid kit;
  • Ensure timely fuel supplies, necessary spare parts and arrangements for major maintenance, timely changes of oil and repairs;
  • Ensure that all immediate actions required by rules and regulations are taken in case of involvement in accidents;
  • Perform any other duty to be assigned by the supervisor during working hours.

 
 Minimum Qualification, Skills and Experience Required:

  • Secondary education;
  • Two (2) years of work experience as Driver;
  • Valid Sudanese Driver’s license;
  • Knowledge of driving rules and regulations;
  • Safe driving record;
  • Good knowledge of security issues and handling of security equipment on board;
  • Skills in day-to-day vehicles maintenance and minor repair;
  • Client-oriented approach;
  • Consistently approaches work with energy and a positive, constructive attitude;
  • Responds positively to feedback;
  • Languages: spoken Arabic and sufficient English to understand simple instructions.
