 Background:

SUMMARY OF POSITION:

The Environmental Health Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) assistant will hold the overall responsibility for all IPC activities of Yarmmok#7 health Facility in Khartoum, Mayo area. These include risk assessment of existing structures and protocols and proposed activities, support the development and implementation of RCCE plans, supervise adaptation of existing structures and protocols to include COVID-19 related IPC, supporting in the training of health care workers on IPC. S/he will work closely with the Environmental Health (WASH) Officer and the Environmental Health (WASH) Coordinator to ensure that COVID-19 triage and isolation facility and all program services meet IRC IPC protocols. The Environmental Health Technical Advisor will be available to provide any technical guidance and support remotely when needed.



 
 Duties and responsibilities:

  • Submission of weekly activity plans and end of week update reports.
  • Work closely with the Community Health Officer to ensure IPC messages are provided to the community and raise issues or concerns on understanding/compliance at household level to the EH officer with solutions on how to improve uptake at HH level.
  • With support from the EH Officer and SUDO Wash Officer on IPC messages to bedisseminated,the post holder will follow up adherence at target community locations.
  • Supporting the EH Coordinator and the EH officer during the IPC training and support staff in IPC and Health Care Waste Management and assessing isolation units’ readiness.
  • Weekly check on the Chlorination, testing, and recording chlorine levels of all water supplies within the Health facility and the Isolation Unit– this will include ensuring all hand washing water is chlorinated to prescribed concentrations in daily basis.
  • Distribution and monitoring the use of cleaning and disinfection materials within the Health facility and the Isolation Unit.
  • Ensure all program facilities in the Triage and Isolation facilities meet standards; making recommendations on upgrading facilities and procedures as needed
  • Coordinate with the Pharmaceutical Officer on the delivery of the IPC materials to the health facilities and report any required quantities.
  • Working with the EH (WASH) Officer to lead on EH/IPC COVID-19 IPC materials and supply procurement plan.
  • Support the WASH officer to conduct IPC infrastructure assessment in newly developed COVID-19 identified isolation and treatment centers and existing health facilities as assigned.
  • Perform any task provided by the IRC EH Officer& EH Coordinator

 
 Minimum Qualification, Skills and Experience Required:

  • A Diploma in public health, or other related disciplines.
  • At least 2 years of experience in similar position/related
  • Professional experience in community WASH programs.
  • Excellent program implementation skills
  • Good communication skills.
  • Good Communication skills in spoken and written English

Travel and other requirements: This position will be based in Khartoum, May Area with a minimum of 40% traveling to field sites.
