 Duties and responsibilities:

ROLE PURPOSE:

The Emergency Response Medical Officer will play a critical role in the Emergency Response Team of SCI Sudan.  He/she will be based in a Health Facility (either in Darfur), and required to rapidly deploy to any other parts of Sudan SCI operational zones as needed for emergency response.

The Emergency Response Medical Officer is expected to participate in responding to disasters like disease outbreaks, floods, drought and population displacement. He/she will have overall responsibility for the delivery of quality clinical care to patients in emergency and non-emergency situations of the response.

The Emergency Response Medical Officer will work alongside other medical staff.  He/she will head the clinical team of Nurses, Midwife, WASH Officer and Nutrition Officer. The Emergency Response Medical Officer is responsible for the management of patients in OPD, Maternal and Child Health clinics, inpatient wards and patients in isolation wards like CTCs, and will participate in mass vaccination campaigns. He/she is expected to be capable of providing emergency surgical and obstetric care with minimal supervision.  He/she will provide overall technical support to other members of the emergency team.

The Emergency Response Medical Officer will ensure that an integrated response to emergencies is provided, by coordinating closely with non-medical stakeholders and partners.

Reports to:

  • (A) During Emergency Deployment: Humanitarian Response Manager.
  • (B) During Non-Emergency Periods: Programme Implementation Manager.

 Minimum Qualification, Skills and Experience Required:

  • Education to BA level in Civil engineering, Geology, Public Health or a related subject,  or equivalent Diploma with extensive field experience,
  • Minimum 2-3  years’ experience with WASH sector, NGO/INGO/UN Agency, or a 10 yrs experience equivalent of Diploma
  • working in Health, Nutrition, WASH-related humanitarian programmes with special focus on Construction/ and waterworks
