The Sudanese Red Crescent Society (SRCS) and the Swedish Red Cross (Swedish RC) have been working in partnership since 1990s. Currently Sudanese Red Crescent with financial and technical support from Swedish RC is implementing a Disaster Risk Reduction and Climate Change Adaptation project in 12 communities in 6 localities from 3 states namely Northern state, River Nile and North Kordofan. The project iscontributing to strengthening the resilience of target communities in Sudan through the reduction of disaster risks including adaptation to climate change. The project has three expected results, which are:

  • To establish institutional and organizational framework to deliver support to community-based DRR and CCA.
  • To develop capacities of SRCS staff and volunteers, and other key stakeholders in order to enable them to support community-based DRR and CCA.
  • To strengthen the capacities of males and females, including the disabled and elderly of different ages in selected communities in Sudan to reduce disaster risk and adapt to climate change.


The project is coordinated and managed at the branch, locality and community levels, under the direct supervision of therespective SRCS Branch Director, a branch level Project Coordinator, together with technical supervision from theSRCSNational ProgrammeCoordinator and Disaster Management (DM) Director. The incumbent, the will be responsible for the smooth implementation of the project in SRCSbranchesand the selected communities.

 Duties and responsibilities:

  • Responsible for branches level coordination, follow up, management of the DRR/CCA project and other assigned actions within the direct supervision and the technical support of National ProgrammeCoordinator.
  • Support the implementation of the project activities,including planning, monitoring, evaluation and reporting of the project activities.
  • Support and facilitate excellent working relationships with government agencies, partners and stakeholders, volunteers, other SRCS project teams, and the community-based disaster management/climate change adaptation groups.


Project management

  • Responsible for the successful completion of allocated DRR/CCA project and actionsin line with the project proposal, log-frame and workplan.
  • Coordinate with the other SRCS projects.
  • Liaise and consult with SRCS national project coordinator, and relevant departments and get technical and managerial support for the smooth implementation of the project in the respective branches and communities.
  • Undertake frequent support and monitoring visits to the project sites and participate in project meetings and events as and when required.
  • Ensure that branches level projects coordination meetings are operational and delivered in line with the project documents.
  • Provide overall guidance to SRCS branch DRR/CCA officers.


Project quality

  • Ensure that the monitoring and evaluation systems are in place at the branches level as outlined in the project documents.



  • Submit project progress reports on time.
  • Provide case studies, articles and photographs from the project and actions.



  • Responsible for the proper financial management of the fund spent under the DRR/CCA project.
  • Ensure the timely submission of the financial report following standard SRCS/SRC procedures.


Programme development

  • Suggest new ideas for projects and interventions.
  • Participate in field assessments for the development of new projects and actions.
  • Support in production of donor proposals for new projects.

 Minimum Qualification, Skills and Experience Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant field with a strong background in DRR, CCA and project management
  • At least 2 years’ working experience in DRR, CCA and project management including financial management
  • Experience in training, supervision, monitoring and evaluation of projects
  • Report writing
  • Excellent computer skills
  • Fluent in English and Arabic
  • Excellent community facilitation skills
  • Previous experience of working with Red Cross or Red Crescent Societies, is preferable

Contract length will not go beyond December 31st 2020
