 Background:

The Norwegian Refugee Council has an interesting and rewarding opportunity to be part of our newest country of operation - Sudan.

The NRC has recently re-registered to operate in Sudan, and is currently in country start-up phase, conducting assessments and designing the first steps of the programme. Focus will be given to people displaced by conflict, refugees, and vulnerable migrants, and potential geographical areas of work will be Khartoum state, South Kordofan and Blue Nile on a first phase, with the idea to expand to other States. 

As a priority, NRC is therefore hiring a Grants Coordinator to be part of establishing NRC's programme in Sudan.



 
 Duties and responsibilities:

The purpose of the Grants Coordinator position is to provide essential grant management support to Country Director in delivering quality programmes in line with the NRC CO strategy and PoA.

 

General responsibilities

  • Adherence to NRC policies, guidance and procedures
  • Maintain overview of all grants, donor requirements, rules and regulations, and internal and external deadlines, including filing of grant documents (including through the grants database – NRC Cycles)
  • Coordinate the development of donor applications and reports, as well as ensuring donor compliance and quality control
  • Contribute to the development, revision and quality control of funding proposals, budgets and donor reports
  • Be updated on donor priorities and track and share relevant calls for proposals
  • Analyze, document and share learning from proposal and reporting process, and compliance with donor rules and regulations
  • Contribute to continuously improving internal grant management systems
  • Provide an internal helpdesk on donor related issues, including organize and deliver trainings in donor rules and regulations, as well as proposal and report writing
  • Coordinate the development and distribution of internal reports
  • Support external donor audits
  • Represent with relevant partners and donors as delegated
  • Promote the rights of IDPs/returnees in line with the advocacy strategy

 

Specific responsibilities

  • Facilitate and contribute to developing and maintaining partner relations within Sudan
  • Ensure the introduction of the internal grant management system (NRC Cycles), including introductions and training to relevant staff
  • Ensure institutional knowledge and memory is attained with regards to program development and in-country partner relations
  • Coordinate the timely submission of narrative and financial reports and ensure all proposal and reporting documents are accessible and well – organized;
  • Actively participate in the country strategy and response planning process;
  • In coordination with the relevant managersensure the active monitoring of programmes progress through active participation in grant opening meetings, monthly grant review meetings and grants closing meetings;

 
 Minimum Qualification, Skills and Experience Required:

  • 3 years of relevant experience within field of expertise
  • Relevant experience from the project management in the humanitarian sector
  • Relevant experience from working with humanitarian- and development donors
  • Good understanding of donor rules and regulations
  • Skills and experience in report and proposal writing
  • Strong communication, coordination and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to mediate in high-stress scenarios with competing interests
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English
  • Above average computer skills

 

Context/ Specific skills, knowledge and experience:

  • Knowledge of the context in Sudan is an asset
  • Knowledge of humanitarian donors
  • Strong Writing skills in both English and Arabic.
  • Knowledge of the humanitarian coordination framework
  • Budget development and management experience
  • Organized and detail oriented
  • Proactive and able to lead new initiatives
  • Experience in putting in place systems
  • Able to work in teams
  • Flexible and hard working
  • Interest to learn

 


We can Offer

  • Duty Station: Khartoum, Sudan
  • Travel: At least 10% travel
  • Contract Period: 12 months, with possible extension
