Gender, protection and accountability to Advisor

 Background:

Primary function

World Relief is seeking a talented Gender, Protection and accountability Advisor who will be the Country Office’s primary focal point for ensuring that protection and gender equality objectives are mainstreamed and that relevant capacities are built to enable gender sensitivity and gender transformative practice. S/he will be responsible for developing clear strategies on gender and protection with special attention to strengthening psychosocial wellbeing and will lead in the implementation of these. S/he will work directly with partners to build capacities and provide technical advice/supervision to implementing staff and volunteers. S/he will monitor the impact of the implementation of the gender and protection strategy of the project and the impact of capacity building activities. S/he will also work closely with program staff to embed protection, gender sensitive and transformative approaches within design, implementation, monitoring and evaluation processes.

 

In addition, the person is responsible for providing close technical support in the area of gender, accountability and protection to SIDA consortium members.



 
 Duties and responsibilities:

  • Ensure protection mainstreaming and gender sensitivity across World Relief Sudan’s work;
  • Capacity Building of World Relief staff, partners and volunteers;
  • Program design and technical advice on psychosocial support programs
  • Coordination and program development
  • Design and deliver realistic and pragmatic gender strategies and programming interventions that will lead to positive gender equality outcomes.
  • Integrate gender equality and protection in Results-Based Management monitoring and reporting methods.
  • Track and report against gender, protection and accountability indicators and disaggregate data by gender to analyze results within each domain.
  • Conduct gender assessments, reviews and audits to assess ways to continually target involvement of women in nutrition sensitive and nutrition specific activities.
  • Review and provide technical feedback on results and project reports to donors in order to ensure quality and full compliance with gender policy and progress towards achieving integration of gender in program.
  • Advise and support the Programs and Partners to integrate gender and protection into activities
  • Develop tools, frameworks and resources to enable better gender integration in the Project.
  • Identify successful practices in the project that can be showcased in publications, communication materials and conferences.
  • Prepare communications materials that highlight the Project’s gender equality and protection programming, successes and lessons learnt.

 
 Minimum Qualification, Skills and Experience Required:

Education:

  • Master degree in social science especially gender studies, social studies or relevant discipline.

 

Experience:

  • A minimum of seven years of field experience in sectoral gender sensitive programming and implementation viz. governance, poverty, protection or conflict significant experience in capacity building on gender mainstreaming);
  • Sound academic background on gender;
  • Strong gender sensitive statistical data capacity;
  • Track record on development of gender sensitive and protection indicators and monitoring

 

Language Requirements:

  • Excellent written and oral skills in English

  • Demonstrated analytical and advocacy skills on gender, accountability to affected communities and protection issues;
  • Excellent inter-personal and negotiation skills;
  • Establishes and maintains relationships with a broad range of people to understand needs and gain support, and is proactive in developing strategies to accomplish objectives;
  • Strong links with international, regional and national networks on gender equality and women’s rights;
  • Monitors progress against milestones and deadlines;
  • Good communication skills
