Background: The Danish Refugee Council (DRC), one of the world’s leading NGOs, with a focus on responding to displacement, have been registered in Sudan since 2004, delivering life-saving programming in protection, emergency response, shelter, food security and livelihoods, disaster risk reduction, camp management, and humanitarian mine action. DRC has implemented projects in Central Darfur, South Kordofan, Gedaref, Port Sudan, and White Nile. Sudan hosts one of the largest displaced populations in Africa, with over 3.7 million internally displaced people and over 1.1 million refugees from South Sudan, Ethiopia, Eritrea, Central African Republic, Chad, Yemen and Syria. Against a background of political crisis, Sudan faces economic and social turmoil, with sharp increases in food and energy costs, further exacerbated by disease outbreaks and ongoing conflict. POSITION PROFILE The Protection Officer, as a member of the DRC Protection team, will work closely with the Protection Team Leader, Manager, and other Protection team members to ensure the set-up, implementation, and impact evaluation as well as high quality results of protection interventions, including GBV preventions, general and community-based protection programming, across implementing locations.

Duties and responsibilities:
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES - Technically supervise and support the field implementation of Protection Assistants, implementing partner staff, community volunteers, and community-based networks in GBV prevention, general protection, and community-based protection programming.
- Identify capacity gaps and areas for improvement, propose appropriate solutions, and deliver capacity-strengthening sessions as required.
- Ensure the quality of direct service delivery by Protection Assistants and partner staff in line with global standards, DRC Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and technical guidance.
- Implement and oversee protection monitoring activities, including data collection through FGDs, KIIs, observations, and incident reporting using Kobo in areas of intervention.
- Lead community engagement and communication activities, including information dissemination through protection desks and awareness-raising sessions.
- Support community-based structures by facilitating meaningful group dialogue and mentoring participants to identify and address protection concerns affecting their communities.
- Ensure a strong understanding of the Engaging Men as Allies (EMAA) curriculum and psychosocial support (PSS) interventions, and supervise and directly facilitate sessions in accordance with the work plan.
- Support and, where required, lead the development and contextualization of protection tools and materials.
- Support and lead capacity-building initiatives on various protection topics.
- Ensure protection mainstreaming across all project activities, including non-protection sector.
- Ensure that community mobilizers and focal points represent diverse backgrounds, nationalities, abilities, profiles, and locations to strengthen DRC's ability to reach individuals most in need of protection and assistance.
- Contribute to all aspects of engagement with community volunteers and focal points, including identification, mobilization, onboarding, capacity building, contractual and administrative management, and coordination of field activities.
- Ensure DRC maintains effective and functional referral pathways by supporting referral mapping, regularly updating referral information, and facilitating safe and timely internal and external referrals.
- Coordinate closely with relevant protection partners to strengthen service coordination and referral mechanisms.
- Assist the Protection Team Leader and/or Protection Manager with logistical and administrative tasks.
- Support timely and accurate reporting of project activities, ensuring all activities are properly documented through means of verification (MoVs), relevant databases, and monitoring tools, and contribute to report’s drafting.
- Coordinate closely with the MEAL team to support monitoring, evaluation, accountability, and learning activities, including overseeing programme MEAL processes and referral follow-up where applicable.
- Perform any other duties as assigned by the Protection Team Leader or Protection Manager.

Minimum Qualification, Skills and Experience Required:
SKILLS AND EXPERIENCES: - At least 3-4 years of experience in non-governmental organizations and humanitarian settings, specifically working on protection programming.
- Demonstrate experience in GBV prevention, community-based and general protection.
- Experience in providing trainings / facilitating sessions on protection topics.
- Experience in staff and/or volunteer supervision and team’s management.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality, respect, non-discrimination and safety of individuals at all times.
- Computer Literacy (Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint).
- Excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skills, creativity and flexibility.
- Flexible and able to handle pressure well.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and works well with people of different cultures, gender and, backgrounds
- Works collaboratively with team members to achieve results
- Remains productive when under pressure with the ability to prioritize effectively, and respects and adheres to deadlines
- Able to work in a variety of environments and is prepared to conduct field missions for several weeks at a time, to remote locations with few amenities
- Strong relationship building / interpersonal skills;
- Positive attitude; Energetic and interested.
EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS: - University Degree in the field of Psychology, Social Sciences, Humanitarian Affairs, International Law, Development or any other related field.
LANGUAGES : - Fluency in Arabic and English required.
