Background: The Danish Refugee Council (DRC), one of the world’s leading NGOs, with a focus on responding to displacement, have been registered in Sudan since 2004, delivering life-saving programming in protection, emergency response, shelter, food security and livelihoods, disaster risk reduction, camp management, and humanitarian mine action. DRC has implemented projects in Central Darfur, South Kordofan, Gedaref, Port Sudan, and White Nile. Sudan hosts one of the largest displaced populations in Africa, with over 3.7 million internally displaced people and over 1.1 million refugees from South Sudan, Ethiopia, Eritrea, Central African Republic, Chad, Yemen and Syria. Against a background of political crisis, Sudan faces economic and social turmoil, with sharp increases in food and energy costs, further exacerbated by disease outbreaks and ongoing conflict. POSITION PROFILE The Protection Assistant as a member of the DRC Protection team works closely with the Protection Team Leader, Manager, and other Protection team members as well as the affected communities to ensure appropriate implementation of protection interventions, including the community engagement, community based protection, running protection desks, delivering Engaging Man as Allies (EMAA) curriculum, psych-social sessions, protection monitoring, as well as leading community volunteers and strengthening capacities of community structures. not respond to unsolicited offers of employment.

Duties and responsibilities:
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES - Conduct age-, gender-, and diversity-appropriate focus group discussions (FGDs) with persons of concern, in line with protection guidelines, principles, and appropriate interviewing techniques, to identify protection concerns.
- Conduct key informant interviews (KIIs) with community members who can represent persons with specific needs (PSNs) and identify protection risks.
- Stay abreast of the social, cultural, and community context, including any changes in the areas of implementation, and support the collection and analysis of data relevant to the affected population and their protection concerns.
- Mobilize communities and facilitate awareness-raising activities, in collaboration with the commutinty volunteers and partner organizations, to disseminate information on human rights, protection principles, and available services.
- Engage with affected communities to strengthen their capacity to identify protection risks and support community-led solutions to protection concerns.
- Deliver the Engaging Men as Allies (EMAA) curriculum and other behaviour change programming within the communities.
- Support the identification of safe and accessible community spaces for the delivery of protection interventions, ensuring community ownership and long-term sustainability.
- Support the identification and referral of protection cases and vulnerable individuals to appropriate services or direct assistance provided by DRC or implementing partners.
- Support the mapping and establishment of referral pathways and service coordination mechanisms.
- Oversee the delivery of protection interventions by community volunteers or partner staff, where applicable, ensuring quality implementation, identifying gaps, and proposing appropriate solutions in coordination with the Protection Team management.
- Liaise and build partnerships with community leaders, chiefs, and other relevant stakeholders to promote participation in, support for, and understanding of programme activities.
- Ensure timely and accurate documentation, reporting, and maintenance of means of verification for all project activities, including updates to DRC Sudan's Information Management (IM) database in coordination with the Protection Information Management Officers.
- Participate in daily planning and debriefing sessions, contribute to report writing, and attend coordination meetings as requested by the Protection Manager.
- Perform any other duties as assigned by the Protection Manager.

Minimum Qualification, Skills and Experience Required:
SKILLS AND EXPERIENCES: - 1- 2 years’ community-based experience involving human rights and multi sector protection experience.
- Demonstrates knowledge of protection minimum standards, protection in emergencies principles, and human rights principles.
- Understanding of protection issues and responses, such as working with PSNs, Women and Children, and the best interest of the human rights principles.
- Knowledge of the humanitarian context in Sudan and of the issues related to conflict and displacement.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook application software.
- Commitment to human rights, women rights and child protection principles.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and works well with people of different cultures, gender and, backgrounds.
- Works collaboratively with team members to achieve results.
- Remains productive when under pressure with the ability to prioritize effectively, and respects and adheres to deadlines.
- Able to work in a variety of environments and is prepared to conduct field missions for several weeks at a time, to remote locations with few amenities.
- Strong relationship building / interpersonal skills;
- Positive attitude; Energetic and interested.
EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS: - Higher Diploma or Degree in Social Sciences, Law or related field.
LANGUAGES : - Fluency in Arabic and English required.
- Strong English writing and organizational skills.
