The Protection & Gender Assistant will support the implementation of gender-sensitive, community-level protection, gender, and safeguarding activities, including protection monitoring, information dissemination, and referrals. All activities will be carried out in accordance with World Vision and donor policies and guidelines, ensuring appropriate information management and adherence to professional standards in protection programming.

1.Conduct outreach 

• Conduct outreach to identify vulnerable at risk, prioritizing the most vulnerable and difficult to identify, conduct sensitization and awareness raising sessions on key protection issues based on identified needs for children and adults in the targeted schools Prepare and conduct recreational activities and community events for children and adolescent in coordination with protection office 
• Provide individual protection assistance to vulnerable children.
• Support in community sensitization and conducting public community events. 
• Support the teams to strategize, plan for and ensure appropriate integration and mainstreaming of protection through all programme activities

2.Conduct referrals

• Identify and refer vulnerable at risk to appropriate services in line with safe identification and referral principles, collect information, update and maintain a service mapping and referral pathway at community level.
• Participates in developing and updating the mapping of services for threats and abuses (including GBV) that IDPs and Host Community children/members face in World Vision targeted schools. 
• Facilitate referral of protection issues to relevant service providers.

3.Documentation

• Regularly record, track and follow-up on referrals
• With support of the Protection Officer, develop and update relevant Information, Education and Communication tools (leaflets, brochures, posters etc.) 
• Produce all the required reports

4.Coordination 

• Draft individual work plan and participate in regular supervision, information sharing and coordination meetings with the Protection Officer and Protection sector coordinator 
• To undertake any other duty assigned by the Field Supervisor.

Required Professional Qualification & Experience

• 1 year of experience conducting outreach, information sessions and events, providing and safe identification and referral  Previous experience working with children and vulnerable adults.
• Excellent facilitation and sensitization skills, good understanding of key protection issues. 
• Knowledge of and commitment to principles of confidentiality, respect, non-discrimination, safety and inclusion
• Excellent communication and psychosocial first aid skills.
• Considerable knowledge and experience in Child Protection is an added advantage. 

Required Education, training, license, registration, and certification

• University degree in a relevant discipline (law, political science, social science, psychology or any other relevant education profile), Demonstrable experience (minimum 2 years) in working with communities in humanitarian or development contexts.
• Capacity and willingness to reside in the field location assigned to and regularly travel to other field locations where World Vision operates 

Preferred Knowledge and Qualifications

• Very good interpersonal skills, particularly in networking, working with communities, local civil society and local authorities.  Previous experience in using and adapting community-led approaches. 
• Good understanding and knowledge in application of do no harm, conflict sensitivity principles and IASC standards and ethics for protection work. 
• Good understanding of protection concerns, including GBV issues in displacement

This role will be located in River Nile Sudan. The successful candidate will be required to operate and work from River Nile, Sudan.
