 Background:

Alsalam Organization for Rehabilitation and Development (AORD) is a Sudanese national non-governmental organization established in 2007 and officially registered with the Federal Humanitarian Aid Commission (HAC). For over 18 years, AORD has delivered integrated humanitarian, recovery, and resilience programming across conflict-affected and underserved areas of Sudan.

Since the escalation of armed conflict, AORD has rapidly adapted its operational model to respond to large-scale displacement, institutional disruption, and severe service collapse. Between 2023 and 2024, the organization implemented 33 projects across 8 states, reaching over 1.4 million people through multi-sector interventions.

AORD combines strong community access, operational agility, structured compliance systems, and active cluster engagement, positioning it as a reliable national partner capable of managing multi-million-dollar portfolios and delivering accountable, high-quality humanitarian assistance in complex environments.

 

Job Purpose

The Communications Officer is responsible for developing and implementing AORD's internal and external communication strategies to enhance the organization's visibility, strengthen stakeholder engagement, support resource mobilization efforts, and ensure consistent branding and messaging across all communication channels.

The position will document program achievements, produce communication materials, manage digital platforms, support media relations, and contribute to donor visibility requirements.



 
 Duties and responsibilities:

1. Communication Strategy and Planning

  • Support the development and implementation of AORD's communication strategy. 
  • Develop annual and project-specific communication plans. 
  • Ensure communication activities align with organizational objectives and donor requirements. 
  • Promote consistent organizational messaging and branding. 

2. Content Development and Documentation

  • Collect, document, and disseminate stories of change, success stories, lessons learned, and human-interest stories from projects. 
  • Draft and edit newsletters, fact sheets, brochures, reports, press releases, and communication products. 
  • Produce high-quality content for publications, websites, and social media platforms. 
  • Support preparation of organizational profiles, presentations, and promotional materials. 

3. Digital Communications and Social Media Management

  • Manage AORD's website and social media platforms. 
  • Develop engaging content and social media campaigns. 
  • Monitor social media performance and audience engagement. 
  • Ensure regular updates of organizational digital platforms. 
  • Track communication analytics and prepare periodic reports. 

4. Media and Public Relations

  • Maintain relationships with local, national, and international media outlets. 
  • Draft media advisories, press releases, and public statements. 
  • Coordinate media coverage of organizational events and activities. 
  • Support organization of press conferences, campaigns, and public events. 

5. Donor Visibility and Branding

  • Ensure compliance with donor communication and visibility guidelines. 
  • Review communication materials to ensure proper donor acknowledgment. 
  • Support projects in developing visibility plans and communication products. 
  • Coordinate production of banners, posters, and branding materials. 

6. Internal Communications

  • Support effective communication among departments and field offices. 
  • Prepare internal announcements, updates, and newsletters. 
  • Document key organizational meetings, workshops, and events. 
  • Facilitate information sharing and knowledge management. 

7. Photography, Videography and Multimedia

  • Capture and archive high-quality photos and videos from project activities. 
  • Coordinate production of multimedia communication materials. 
  • Maintain a digital library of communication assets. 
  • Ensure ethical standards and consent procedures are followed when collecting visual content. 

8. Resource Mobilization Support

  • Support proposal development teams by providing communication materials and organizational information. 
  • Prepare visibility and communication sections of project proposals. 
  • Contribute communication content for donor reports and fundraising campaigns. 

9. Monitoring and Reporting

  • Monitor communication activities and measure impact. 
  • Maintain records of media coverage and communication outputs. 
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual communication reports. 
  • Develop communication indicators and performance tracking tools. 

 
 Minimum Qualification, Skills and Experience Required:

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Media Studies, Mass Communication, Marketing, International Relations, or a related field. 

Experience

  • Minimum 3–5 years of professional experience in communications, media, public relations, or related fields. 
  • Experience working with NGOs, INGOs, UN agencies, or humanitarian organizations is highly desirable. 
  • Experience in documenting humanitarian and development programs is preferred. 

 

Required Skills and Competencies

Technical Skills

  • Excellent writing, editing, and reporting skills in English and Arabic. 
  • Strong knowledge of social media management and digital communication tools. 
  • Experience with graphic design software (Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, or similar). 
  • Photography and videography skills. 
  • Website content management experience. 
  • Knowledge of donor visibility requirements and branding standards.

Child Safeguarding and Code of Conduct

The Communications Officer shall adhere to AORD's policies on safeguarding, protection from sexual exploitation and abuse (PSEA), prevention of fraud and corruption, confidentiality, and the organization's Code of Conduct at all times. Through implementing the policies and report any actual or potential risk situations following the reporting procedures, being aware of abuse and risks to children, being vigilant, becoming familiar with the CPP, and preventing abuse/protect children.The incumbent must ensure that all MEAL activities are conducted in a safe, ethical, and child-sensitive manner. Any safeguarding concerns must be reported immediately according to established reporting procedures.
