 Background:

We are seeking a reliable and service-oriented Cleaner who will maintain a clean, safe, and comfortable living and working environment within MSF facilities. By ensuring high standards of housekeeping, hygiene, and organization, you will contribute to the well-being of staff and the smooth functioning of daily operations.
As a Cleaner, you will play an important role in supporting MSF operations by ensuring that offices, guesthouses, and common areas remain clean, organized, and well-maintained. With a strong focus on hygiene, housekeeping, inventory upkeep, and attention to detail—guided by MSF standards and procedures—you will help create a safe, welcoming, and functional environment for international staff and visitors



 
 Duties and responsibilities:

  • Clean bedrooms, bathrooms, toilets and other rooms in MSF houses/Offices (including entrances and verandas).
  • Do the laundry iron clothes, bed sheets, towels on a regular basis and other housekeeping activities.
  • Support the cook (washing up, cleaning the kitchen, etc.).
  • Sweep and mop the floors, on daily basis, etc.
  • Restock supplies (toilet paper, soap, etc.) as required.
  • Upon arrival, prepare hot water for tea/coffee and refill drinking water.
  • Check that the toilets are well stocked with paper, soap and condoms.
  • Check that the water supply (kitchen, showers, etc.) is sufficient during water cuts.
  • Keep premises properly locked (doors, windows) and to spray refreshment if needed.

MSF Section/Context Specific Accountabilities

 

Cleanliness

  • Assure cleanliness of desks in offices on a daily basis and of shelves on a regular basis.
  • Assure cleanliness of all windows and the yard on a regular basis.
  • Empty dustbins of all rooms/offices on a daily basis. 
  • If working in the office, remove glasses and cups from all offices and ensure that there are always clean ones available.
  • Ensure with logistics department, if needed, that all waste material is disposed of on time.

Beds

  • Change bed sheets, towels in the house on a regular basis/ according to the worktable or when visitors come and leave.
  • Ensure that mosquito nets are in place and contact line manager when it is needed to change them.

Equipment

  • Look after all equipment provided in the house or office.
  • Ensure together with the administration assistant/ Line Manager that all supplies in house/office are restocked on time, i.e. candles, matches, gas, water, toilet paper, soaps, cleaning material, etc.)
  • Keep an inventory of items, i.e. sheets, towels, pillows, blankets, etc., and report items missing or needing repair to line manager in time manner. 
  • Know how to use extinguishers as well as know where they are located. 

Reporting

  • Ensure that line manager is informed of any problems that might be linked to the house/office as well as problematic equipment or material (ex. broken, missing).
  • Inform line manager of arrival of any materials for house/office cleaning.
  • Ensure that no material is taken out of MSF house/office without prior authorization.

Others

  • Participate in team meetings and possible training upon supervisor request.
  • Prepare and offer water, tea or coffee to visitors, if needed.
  • Respect privacy of house residents, i.e. private stuff, clothes, notes, etc.
  • Assure that there is always enough water for bathrooms in tanks by advising the watchmen if deem necessary. 
  • Respects the working time in and out. 
  • On request: 
  • Performs any reasonable additional duties when asked by his/her supervisor.
  • For temporary replacement the employee may be assigned to other positions.

 
 Minimum Qualification, Skills and Experience Required:

  • Essential secondary high school degree.
  • Minimum 1 year working as a Cleaner or related field, desirable INGO experience.
  • Ability to read and understand simple instructions and workplace procedures. Experience managing cleaning supplies and maintaining simple inventory records.
  • Basic understanding of workplace hygiene, sanitation, and infection prevention practices.
  • Desirable A1-A2 Language with Native Arabic proficiency.
