Background:
We are seeking a skilled and dedicated mechanic who will oversee the maintenance, servicing, and repair of vehicles, generators, and mechanical equipment, ensuring they remain safe, reliable, and fully operational in line with MSF standards to support uninterrupted humanitarian operations. As the Mechanic, you will serve as a technical focal point for vehicle and generator maintenance, carrying out advanced diagnostics, repairs, and servicing activities. Guided by MSF procedures and best mechanical practices, you will help maximize fleet reliability, reduce downtime, manage spare parts and workshop resources, and provide technical support to drivers and field logistics teams
Duties and responsibilities:
Performing autonomously and ensuring, all necessary complex / advanced maintenance and repair of MSF vehicles and mechanical equipment to ensure they are in perfect condition for their use. This includes the following tasks :
Performing maintenance according to the instructions in the logbook, ensuring all type of services to all vehicles are done on time (i.e. mini A, medium B and full C, and special services referred in logbook when possible).
Testing all vehicles after each service is concluded and before it is handed back to its driver
Keeping record of vehicle’s driver remarks, and carrying out repairs if needed (vehicles and other mechanical equipment) and filling in service, repair or vehicle log book. Reporting to the line manager any problem related to MSF vehicles
In the case of a breakdown, making a diagnosis, informing the line manager and after approval carrying out any complex / advanced repairs needed.
Following up the validity of all documents (annual inspections, insurance or any other required documents)
Assisting in the briefing or training of drivers regarding vehicle services and maintenance
Managing the stock of consumable items, filling in the stock cards, carrying out physical stock inventories, executing orders necessary for renewing stock, avoiding any shortage
Responsible for the equipment and tools, including extinguishers, checking they are correctly and safely used, maintaining and renewing them when necessary and keeping the inventory updated.
Keeping working area clean and tidy.
Ensuring that all record sheets and books related to maintenance are always completed and preparing needed reports before and after any repair or required maintenance.
Assist in the briefings or trainings of drivers regarding vehicle services and maintenance.
Support drivers in carrying weekly check-ups.
Follow up any outsourced complex maintenance for MSF vehicles and Generators, report to his/her line manager where needed.
Carry out identification of required spare parts by parts numbers from online MSF catalogues and other relevant various catalogues link to vehicles, generators and other motorized equipment in use in the Sudan mission
Manage contingency stock of fuel that will be installed at workshop, carry out distribution to various assets, including vehicles, generators, and other motorized equipment. Update stock cards, monitor consumption etc
Technically support mechanic assistances and driver mechanics in the field, this will include field visit when required
Perform regular services for Generators at Coordination and support projects, if necessary, visit project sites.
Minimum Qualification, Skills and Experience Required:
Essential Technical Diploma in Mechanics or related field. University Diploma 3 years in engineering specialization in Mechanic is an asset.
Essential valid Sudanese general driving license.
Minimum 2 years of demonstrated experience as a mechanic, vehicle technician, or similar role.
Experience servicing 4x4 vehicles, light trucks, generators, or other motorized equipment is highly desirable.
Additional training in vehicle diagnostics, generator maintenance, or automotive electrical systems is an advantage.
Previous experience working with NGOs, humanitarian organizations, fleet operations, or workshop environments is an asset.
Experience supervising or providing technical guidance to assistants or drivers is desirable.
Minimum B1 Proficiency level in English and native or near-native proficiency in Arabic.
