 Background:

Providing psychological support to patients according to MSF principles, standards and procedures in order to improve the patients’ mental health.



 
 Duties and responsibilities:

  • Carrying out evaluation of mental health needs of patients and establishing a diagnosis and a plan of treatment. Informing the patient and his/her relatives about the possible consequences of the illness and the drug treatment to follow and referring patients to other health professionals whenever necessary, in order to provide the most appropriate treatment and improve the patient's condition
  • Implementing the Sexual Gender Based Violence (SGBV) protocol, identifying possible victims of SGBV and referring them to the medical team so that they receive the necessary treatment. 
  • Providing psychological support and psychotherapy sessions (individual, family, group) to patients according to MSF protocols in order to improve their mental health conditions 
  • Assisting and training staff members and resourceful people  whenever necessary in order to enhance the scope of MH activities. Working in close collaboration with translators in order to ensure appropriate terminology and behavior during sessions 
  • Collecting statistical and monitoring data about mental health activities 
  • Informing the supervisor and the medical team about any issues or problems that may arise related to patients’ treatment in order to provide the best possible solution from a medical perspective 
  • Ensuring that all patient information is kept confidential
  • Provide individual and group therapeutic sessions to patients and caregivers with moderate to severe psychosocial distress, following the established protocols and a Trauma-informed care approach. 
  • Provide mental health care in OPD, IPD, nutrition, pediatrics, and SRH services, including SGBV survivors with a Trauma-Informed care approach.
  • Develop psychoeducation and culturally adapted MHPSS activities for patients and caregivers
  • Identify, refer, and follow up severe or complex mental health cases with mhGAP doctors and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Collaborate closely with medical, nutrition, nursing, and community teams to ensure integrated and holistic patient care. 
  • Establish regular communication with the Head of CMHW and counsellors to identify the main psychosocial needs among patients and community members. 
  • Organize therapeutic groups with identified patients and/or caregivers in the hospital or communities if needed.
  • Contribute to timely data collection and its submission to the Mental Health Acivity Manager (MHAM).
  • Participate in technical supervision with mhGAP doctors ensuring collaborative work and holistic support to the patient.
  • Contribute to training sessions and materials development to strengthen capacities of the MH team and other health care workers.
  • Provide psychological assessment, individual and group support
  • Coordinate with multidisciplinary and community teams for integrated care.
  • Ensure documentation, reporting, supervision, and staff training support

 
 Minimum Qualification, Skills and Experience Required:

  • Languages: Arabic and English are essential
  • Education: Degree or Diploma in Psychology is essential
  •  Experience: Minimum 2 years of experience working as a psychologist is essential. Previous experience with MSF or other NGOs, especially in similar humanitarian or developing-country contexts, is desirable
