DRC has implemented projects in Central Darfur, South Kordofan, Gedaref, Port Sudan, Khartoum, and White Nile. Sudan hosts one of the largest displaced populations in Africa, with over 3.7 million internally displaced people and over 1.1 million refugees from South Sudan, Ethiopia, Eritrea, Central African Republic, Chad, Yemen and Syria. Against a background of political crisis, Sudan faces economic and social turmoil, with sharp increases in food and energy costs, further exacerbated by disease outbreaks and ongoing conflict.
The overall purpose of the role: DRC is committed to addressing conflict sensitivity and fostering peaceful coexistence in conflict areas through community engagement and peacebuilding initiatives. These efforts include mainstreaming conflict sensitivity into all of DRCs activities, conducting conflict analyses to inform our programming, identifying opportunities to achieve peace dividends from our other sectoral programming, as well as specific interventions such as Community Safety Planning, Conflict Mediation training, and Youth Campaigns. DRC seeks a dedicated Community Engagement Officer to implement its peacebuilding initiatives in Khartoum / Omdurman. The Community Engagement Officer is instrumental in supporting and implementing initiatives aimed at promoting peace, reconciliation, and conflict resolution in various communities. The role involves close collaboration with local stakeholders, community leaders, and project partners to facilitate dialogue, build relationships, and create sustainable peace-building strategies.
