 Background:

The WASH Officer is expected to contribute and support the operations, including delivery of all national initiatives and activities covered by the WASH programs (water supply, sanitation, hygiene) with equal emphasis on both emergency and development efforts inclusive both rural and urban with a public health focus, ensure sound and consistent coordination between the IFRC Delegation , the National Society and the wider international and humanitarian network, and to ensure linkages and integration in a resilience based program approach. Moreover, the WASH Officer will contribute to and backstop coordination of WASH support during emergencies and provide growth and quality management to developmental WASH.



 
 Duties and responsibilities:

Under the general guidance from the Senior WASH officer, the officer will undertake the following duties.

  • Contribute to and support the coordination of the work in publications, conferences and meetings and ensure that relevant advocacy themes are well presented and to the positioning of the work as a leader in all WASH aspects at both emergency and long-term programs.
  • Contribute to national society input in the development of WASH related national policies, strategies, guidelines, and tools as well as the integration of these into the work of LRCS to ensure feasible and sustainable WASH projects and programs with effective public health.
  • Contribute to and support community-based WASH initiatives, both rural and urban, as an effective means of contributing towards achievement of the health-related Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
  • Provide technical and operational support to ensure that all WASH activities of the emergency appeal are implemented as planned in operating strategy.
  • Oversee expenditures related to agreed WASH interventions as per approved budget allocations.
  • Support the mapping of WASH programming, monitor progress and best practices and priority needs of LRCS especially in the context of developmental and emergency WASH and contribute to the formulation of strategy and policy by the National
  • Contribute to the LRCS leadership role in the scaling up of WASH programs covering emergency and developmental needs.
  • Ensure that tools, guidelines, and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) shared with LRCS are based on evidence, applicable international standards and follow a resilience-based health
  • Manage aspects of the WASH Budget under supervision of the Budget Holder.
     

 
 Minimum Qualification, Skills and Experience Required:

Qualifications:
University degree in Water Engineering, civil engineering or other relevant areas is preferred.


Experience Required:
At least 3 years of experience in hygiene promotion or WASH-related projects in humanitarian contexts. 

 

Knowledge & Skills:
• Professional experience in community WASH programs in displaced populations
• Excellent program implementation skills.
• Good communication skills.
• Reporting skills. 

 

Language:
English “advanced level”.
