MSF-Swiss is seeking to employ 1 (one) qualified candidate in the Khartoum Project for the position of Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) Manager.



 
 Duties and responsibilities:

Main Purpose of the position:

Responsible for coordinating and overseeing Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) activities at mission level, in accordance with MSF protocols and standards, in order to ensure the safety of patients, caretakers, and staff, and to maintain the quality of care in all supported health structures.

 

Tasks & Responsibilities

  • Participates in the definition of IPC objectives and priorities and contributes to the medical and emergency preparedness strategy of the mission.
  • In collaboration with IPC Supervisors and clinical teams, conduct regular IPC assessments (including SIPCA) and defines, implements, and monitors IPC action plans.
  • Establishes and maintains monitoring systems for IPC activities, analyzes results, identifies gaps, and proposes corrective actions.
  • Ensures the correct implementation of standard precautions and transmission based precautions in all departments, including wards, outpatient services, sterilization, laundry, kitchen, waste management, and hygiene services.
  • Provides technical supervision, coaching, and training to clinical and non clinical staff on IPC practices, using existing tools such as audits, checklists, and observation.
  • Supports the design and implementation of clean and dirty flows within health facilities and ensures adherence to approved patient and material circuits.
  • Ensures appropriate isolation measures and IPC responses for air, droplet, and contact transmissible diseases, adapting guidelines to facility realities.
  • Contributes to outbreak detection and response related to nosocomial and healthcare associated infections, in coordination with Medical, WASH, and Epidemiology teams.
  • Monitors the availability, correct use, and consumption of IPC supplies and equipment (PPE, disinfectants, hygiene materials), and alerts relevant departments to shortages or quality issues.
  • Works closely with Hospital Facilities, WASH, and Logistics teams to ensure that essential IPC requirements (water, sanitation, waste management, environmental hygiene) are met in health structures.
  • Supervises and supports IPC staff in collaboration with HR, including:
  • Induction and on the job training
  • Performance follow up
  • Capacity development and motivation
  • Reports regularly to the MedCo on IPC status, risks, and achievements, and contributes to monthly medical reporting with clear recommendations

MSF Section/Context Specific Accountabilities

  • Adapt IPC strategies and implementation to conflict‑affected, displacement, and access‑constrained contexts.
  • Support rapid IPC scale‑up during outbreaks and emergencies.
  • Strengthen staff adherence to IPC measures in high‑pressure and high‑workload environments.
  • Capacity building of all IPC supervisors.
  • Follow-up of IPC standards and indicators.
  • Regular contact with MSF OCG IPC flying and advisor for activity follow-up.
  • Contribute actively to IPC planning mission wide: plan of actions or Mid Year review.
  • Ensure IPC monitoring and reporting for Sudan mission and ensure IPC data are encoded on DHIS2.

 
 Minimum Qualification, Skills and Experience Required:

Qualifications and requirements

 

Education: 

  • Essential: Nursing diploma, medical degree, Pharmacy, Epidemiology, or related health qualification.
  • Essential: IPC training/diploma validated by MSF.
  • Desirable: Tropical Medicine or Public Health training.

Experience: 

  • Minimum 2 years’ professional experience in IPC in hospital or health‑facility settings.
  • Experience in humanitarian or emergency contexts is an asset.

Language: 

  • Essential: Fluent Arabic & English

Knowledge: 

  • Essential computer literacy (word, excel and internet)
