 Background:

ROLE PURPOSE: The education project officer is responsible for the day-to-day implementation of activities in timely and quality manner following SC initiatives and approaches.



 
 Duties and responsibilities:

Implementation:

  • Participate in the development of logical detailed implementation Plans (DIP) for education project in line with MEAL guidelines
  • Lead the implementation of the educational activities with in all the education projects
  • Ensure that all resources needed for the implementation under the sector are available in time as well as in right quantity and quality 
  • Assist in planning and arranging different community mobilization and community engagement strategies to support the education sector’s activities and goals
  • Initiate grass-root advocacy efforts with stakeholders at school levels to support children’s access and retention.
  • With support from the education program manager /coordinator lead in the delivery of awareness campaigns and provide guidance for the successful implementation of advocacy and community awareness sessions.
  • Under leadership of the education program manager, facilitate the process of school grant in coordination with the local partner and the state MoE.
  • Develop and follows monthly and weekly program implementation plan taking into consideration internal and external factors that might affect the implementation of the activities.
  • Use appropriate participatory techniques with children, parents, teachers, school administrations and PTAs to identify and implement suitable activities that provide quality learning opportunities and development for schoolchildren
  • Closely monitor and follow up the education activities to evaluate progress and provide constructive feedback.

Assessment

  • Document and evaluate experiences and lessons for institutional learning and national/regional coordination/networking
  • Compile data on educational needs, school supplies needs, and gaps within SC impact areas.
  • Assist in evaluating the education outcomes in the activity projects areas
  • Initiate outreach visits to the conflict affected population to identify education needs and possible interventions.

Coordination:

  • Contribute to the development of concept papers/notes and project proposals
  • Work closely with the education manager to identify the training needs of local partners and stakeholders
  • In collaboration with the Student Activity Department, lead the process of SRC formation, training and development of their work plans.
  • Comply with Save the Children policies and practices with respect to child protection, code of conduct, health and safety, equal opportunities and other relevant policies and procedures.

 Minimum Qualification, Skills and Experience Required:

QUALIFICATIONS

Qualification: A bachelor’s degree in education or related field, social science or any other relevant qualification. 

Experience:

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience working with INGO/NGO in community mobilization approaches and implementation of education projects activities.
  • Good knowledge and understanding of education sector and program activities to explain to partners and other stakeholders when asked for 
  • Experience of and commitment to working through systems of community participation and accountability
  • Good communication skills
  • The capacity to the extremely flexible and accommodating in difficult and sometimes insecure working circumstances.
  • Proven willingness to travel to remote areas for implementation, monitoring and evaluation of activities
  • Commitment to the aims and principles of Save the Children in particular, a good understanding of the Save the Children mandate and child focus and an ability to ensure this continues to underpin our support. 

Desirable:

  • Knowledge of Sudan economic, social, political and cultural context.
  • Knowledge about international donor- compliance regulations, especially for ECHO, EC
