Duties and responsibilities:
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Safety and Security Coordination and implementation - Collaborate with the Country Director to ensure regular review and implementation of the Country Office Safety and Security procedures.
- Review, track and submit incident reports to the Program Director according to Medical Teams policy.
- Coordinates a 24-hour response to all security and safety related incidents involving Medical Teams’ staff and premises and alert management and conduct investigations and follow up as needed.
- Gather and analyze information related to the security context in all Medical Teams Sudan operational areas; stay up to date on any changes in context by maintaining relevant contacts and soliciting information from relevant parties.
- Conduct security risk assessments of Medical Teams premises and Vehicles then advise management on security improvement measures; regularly test various security plans and complete checklists.
- Conduct security trainings as per Medical Teams policy and gives security updates as needed to all Medical Teams staff and visitors.
- Research and analyze security dynamics in project areas from a variety of local and national sources in order to produce weekly security updates.
Stakeholder Engagement /Networking - Collaborate with management to ensure appropriate liaison with government agencies, local authorities, district/traditional leaders, counterparts in UN and diplomatic missions.
- Develop good professional relationships with relevant authorities and stakeholders.
- Attend relevant Inter-agency Coordination meetings and build positive working relationships with personnel in similar roles at other NGOs/UN.
- Ensure that Medical Teams has a wide network of security contacts and sources of information for
Triangulation and maintain these relationships. Policies and Procedures - Advise management on the impact of security factors and policies on program design and delivery, as well as the potential impact that programs might have on stability and security and make recommendations for security needs and improvements.
- Ensure that staff are aware and uphold the Field Operations Safety and Security Policy
- Develop SOPs and contingency plans to reduce staff risk and vulnerability.
- Ensure revised Safety and Security Instructions, policies and procedures are approved, publicized,
- and implemented across the team.
- Ensure that contingency plans for Crisis Management, Evacuation, Relocation, Hibernation, and
- Ensure medical Evacuation are in place and disseminated and adopted amongst staff.
- Ensure that security procedures are understood and respected at all times and support the Country
- Director / Field Coordinator in taking the right steps in case of non-compliance to rectify the
- Situation.
Security risk Assessments and incident management and reporting - Conduct desktop and on-ground Security Risk Assessments for all new locations, helping to
- Evaluate risks to staff, beneficiaries or Medical Teams assets.
- Assess all potential facilities (offices, accommodation, warehouses, health facilities etc), making Recommendations on safety of location and security additions needed.
- Ensure and regularly reassess those vehicles, facilities and equipment are compliant with Medical Teams’ standards. Advise and where necessary implement improvements.
- Co-ordinate with program staff in implementation of project plans and how these relate to security.
- Systematically map all incidents and provide timely analysis to identify emerging trends and inform
- future security management.
- Report any information related to Access and safety to the Country Director
- Coordinator with Field Coordinator and relevant stakeholder for any Security issue related to their area of operation.
- Seek Country Director approval before execution of any action related to safety and Access
- Advise management on selection of appropriate equipment for security (vehicles, telecommunications equipment, etc.); Liaises with Operations Department to ensure the procurement, deployment and functionality of the same.
Other Duties - Ensure the Safeguarding of program participants and employees through promoting an environment of awareness and upholding the code of conduct provisions of Medical Teams Protection from Sexual Exploitation & Abuse, Child & Vulnerable Adult protection, and harassment-free workplace policies. Incumbents will remain alert and responsive to any child and adult safeguarding risks, acquire relevant knowledge and skills which will enable you to promote strong safeguarding practices, understand the child and adult safeguarding policy and procedures, and conduct yourself in a manner consistent with the Safeguarding code of conduct and behavior expectations.
- Utilize volunteers when appropriate.
- Additional duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualification, Skills and Experience Required:
Required: - Bachelor’s degree in security management, Political/Social Science, Military Studies, Management, Law Enforcement or a relevant field
Preferred: - Completed Personal Security, HEAT or other similar security training is an added advantage (preferably in the last three years)
- Completed First Aid Certification Training in the last three years will be an added advantage.
- Completed security/risk management Certificate training or similar (desirable)
Experiences & Skills: Required: - 3 years of experience working in a humanitarians Context in a safety and security role.
- Prior experience with the UN system or an international NGO Excellent surveillance and emergency response skills
- Skilled in identifying potential risks and implementing actions to mitigate risk
- Skilled at building and maintaining a high functioning, high performing work team.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with good command of written and spoken English and Arabic
- Strong organizational skills and able to think critically in a deadline driven environment
- Skilled at using Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
