 Duties and responsibilities:

Main Purpose of Job: 

 

To drive IRC Ambulance or any other emergency response vehicle (as per IRC responsible personnel).

 

Duties & Responsibilities of Job: 

 

  • He is only person responsible and allowed to drive the Ambulance unless otherwise authorised.
  • Maintain high standard of service to patients.
  • Ensure punctuality and safe trip.
  • Observe the road and traffic laws and regulations of the Republic of the Sudan.
  • Ensure that safe driving practices are adhered to including local driving codes and internally agreed standards.
  • Advise passengers  and health staff accompanied the patients  to always wear seatbelts while on board of the Ambulance and ensure that no non-medical passengers are not transported unless authorised by management (filling IRC Passengers Liability Waiver) .

 

Car Security & Maintenance

 

  • Always keep the Ambulance clean, tidy and in good working condition.
  • Always secure the Ambulance during travel and while parked.
  • Establish a regular/day-to-day check.
  • Perform minor repairs and arrange for other repairs, prepare the Ambulance spare parts inventory.
  • Assist the Supply Chain Officer to ensure the Ambulance insurance and registration is updated according to schedule.

 

Car Logbook maintenance

 

  • Log official trips, daily mileage, fuel consumption, Ambulance service, maintenance etc.

 

Communications and Working Relationships:

 

  • Establish appropriate information-sharing relationships with staff in similar positions within other INGOs and car rental companies.
  • Manage International Rescue Committee –Sudan relationship with other Ambulance drivers/car rental companies ensuring driving standards, passenger safety requirements and driver courtesy and punctuality is achieved.  

 
 Minimum Qualification, Skills and Experience Required:

  • At least 2-3 years of experience in Ambulance driving.
  • Education: -High Secondary Sudanese Certificate is required (technical diploma is an advantage).
  • Understanding Sudan Traffic Law.
  • Good traffic judgment. 
  • Good knowledge about car mechanics. 
  • Excellent driving skills.
  • Valid general driving license (driver licensed as Ambulance drivers are highly recommended to apply for this position).
  • First Aid Kit training is an advantage.
  • Arabic speaking and writing is a must.
  • Basic English speaking, writing, and understanding.
  • Ability to work in a challenging, post-conflict complex environment.
  • Computer literacy and familiar with microsoft word and excel package is an advantage.
  • Being well-organized and systematic.
  • Careful, accountable, responsible, and punctual.
  • Honest and approachable.
  • Good personal grooming & personal presentation
  • Commitment to the aims of International Rescue Committee Sudan.
  •  Discreet and respectful of confidentiality.

 

Physical Environment and Demands: 

.

  • This is a full-time position at the designated location (to be assigned later) with regular and extensive travel to International Rescue Committee program areas in Sudan.
  • Willing to work long and irregular hours, shift duty and on public holidays as required.
  • Willing to take regular and extensive travel to International Rescue Committee -Sudan health facilities and projects areas in region.
