The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) works worldwide to provide protection and humanitarian assistance to people affected by conflict and armed violence. We take action in response to emergencies and at the same time promote respect for international humanitarian law. We are an independent and neutral organization, and our mandate stems essentially from the Geneva Conventions of 1949. We work closely with National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies and with their International Federation in order to ensure a concerted, rational and rapid humanitarian response to the needs of the victims of armed conflict or any other situation of internal violence. We direct and coordinate the international activities conducted in these situations.

THE PURPOSE

 

The Welcome driver ensures drop-off at / pick-up of ICRC staff and guests from airports, stations, etc. He transports people and goods in a safe and timely manner, in accordance with ICRC rules and regulations and national traffic laws.

 Duties and responsibilities:

  • Drives light vehicles to transport people and/or material in strict adherence to internal security rules and national traffic laws.
  • Ensure availability to pick up mobile staff to and from the ICRC reference hospitals in case of medical emergencies during evening time and weekends.
  • Support the Welcome assistant with the protocol follow up when needed, like residencies renewal process and immigration, MFA follow up when needed as per the guidance of welcome assistant and supervisor.
  • Welcomes and transport international flights from/to the airport – in charge of immigration, security and customs formalities by facilitating the process and providing translation services.
  • Welcomes and transport of domestic flights passengers, from/to the delegation/airport. 
  • Performs and follows up the welcome paperwork/items with the arriving passengers (newcomers’ envelopes, daily envelopes, salary advances mobiles/pool mobiles, ID cards…).
  • Channels information about travel related issues for the Welcome Department.
  • Plays a key role in case of lost luggage with the relevant authorities at the airport 
  • Ensures that goods/luggage are stored inside the vehicle according to local, international and ICRC safety standards (attachment and distribution of goods, etc.).
  • Checks their assigned vehicle(s)' equipment, general functioning and body condition and ensures that it is kept fuelled and clean inside and out.

 
 Minimum Qualification, Skills and Experience Required:

DESIRED PROFILE AND SKILLS

 

  • Strongly motivated by humanitarian work
  • Able to work under pressure in a potentially dangerous environment

 

 

CERTIFICATIONS / EDUCATION REQUIRED

 

  • Secondary School or Equivalent with additional vocational training in mechanics or another relevant field
  • Conversational in English and Arabic
  • Intermediate level in computer skills
  • General Driving license for at least 5 years; Succeeded in ICRC Driving test
  • Good knowledge of the area of assignment

 

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

 

  • 2-4 years of experience in a similar position, experience of international organizations an asset.
