Duties and responsibilities:
- With the support of the Desk Epidemiologist, creating, reviewing and adapting data collection tools according to the project indicators, and coordinating the development, implementation and follow up of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for documentation. Developing and implementing data quality assurance methods to ensure good performance of the activities and reliability of the information, treating with respect and confidentiality all patient information
- Providing technical support to the medical team and data entry staff in the implementation of routine data recording, collection and entry for the selected project indicators in clinics and/or hospitals and/or health centers. Organizing and implementing or providing technical support in the establishment of monitoring tools for new activities as initiated in the project.
- On a monthly, quarterly or basis of request, implementing detail analysis of recorder data for key indicators for the project in order to facilitate the definition, redefinition or reorientation of project activity. This will also include analysis of the district’s (MoH) cohort data, whenever available. Following the analysis, identifying and reporting any new and interesting indicators for review with the medical team for potential follow up where relevant.
- Managing and supervising the work of the data team personnel for quality assurance including identification of training needs and providing coaching for the staff on issues related to data
- Planning and supervising, with support of the HR department, the associated HR processes (recruitment, training/induction, evaluation, potential detection, motivation, development and internal communication) the data team in order to ensure having the appropriate team in terms of size, capabilities and skills
- Participating in meetings and/or trainings as requested scheduled by manager or MSF. This includes but is not limited to MSF internal meetings and/or trainings, and local, regional, or international meetings and/or trainings
- On a monthly basis and in collaboration with the medical team, preparing and submitting summary reports on analysed data for both MoH and MSF and preparing and implementing MSF internal monthly or quarterly medical data presentation, including facilitation of team reflection and sharing of updates to promote team dynamism and reactivity
- Performing additional activities whenever needed and as requested by the supervisor.
The Medical Data Analyst will be based in the MSF-Holland coordination office in Port Sudan, providing remote support to all projects and in-person support to projects and other emergency responses as required. The position focuses on strengthening medical data systems, ensuring data quality, and producing analysis to inform operational and strategic decision-making across the mission. Data systems, tools, and quality assurance. - With support from the Desk Epidemiologist, adapt, review, and support the implementation of standardized DHIS medical data collection tools in line with MSF indicators, taking into account constraints related to insecurity, connectivity, and remote support.
- Develop, implement, and monitor data quality assurance mechanisms across all projects, including routine data quality checks, consistency reviews, and feedback loops with field teams.
- Ensure all medical data management respects MSF standards for data protection, confidentiality, and ethical use of patient information.
Project-specific technical support - Support monitoring and quality assurance of routine clinical data
- Provide technical support to surveillance system where present, including indicator monitoring, data review, and feedback to medical teams.
- Monitor and support the implementation of linelists where necessary including advising on data flow, data entry, routine quality checks, and follow-up with medical teams
- With support of MedCo and Epidemiologist, compile weekly indicators and review data collection processes and tools following initial implementation.
Analysis and operational use of data - On a monthly basis and/or when necessary , conduct analysis of key medical indicators to support operational decision-making, reorientation of activities, and emergency response planning.
- Where available, analyse Ministry of Health (MoH) or district-level cohort data and integrate relevant findings into MSF project analysis.
- Identify emerging trends, alerts, or gaps in data and proactively flag these to medical coordination for follow-up.
Emergency response support - Provide rapid data management and analysis support to new emergency activities, including cholera outbreaks or other emerging health events.
- Support the establishment of monitoring systems, indicators, and reporting structures for newly opened emergency responses.
Team supervision and capacity building - Manage and supervise data staff for quality assurance purposes, including identifying training needs and providing coaching on data management and analysis.
- Contribute to HR processes related to the data team (recruitment input, induction, evaluation, and skills development) in collaboration with HR and medical coordination.
Reporting, coordination, and communication - Prepare and submit regular analysed medical data summaries and reports for MSF and MoH as required.
- Prepare and present internal monthly or quarterly medical data reviews, facilitating reflection with medical teams to strengthen reactivity and programme quality.
- Participate in internal MSF meetings, trainings, and coordination forums as requested.
