Background:
CARE International is a global confederation that is working in 104 countries around the world to save lives, end poverty and fight social injustice. CARE has been operating in Sudan since 1979, implementing humanitarian and development programs particularly focused on women’s and girls’ empowerment, gender justice, humanitarian action, and resilience building. Since the beginning of the conflict CARE Sudan maintained its operations in East Darfur, South Darfur, Red Sea, Kassala, Gedaref, and South Kordofan. CARE Sudan currently works in partnership with over 15 national NGOs and several consortia and strategic alliances. CARE Sudan’s donors include the EU, ECHO, USAID, BHA, the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the German Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Global Affairs Canada, the Luxembourg Ministry of Foreign Affairs as well as multilateral UN funding. Recently CARE received funding from the European Union-EU to implement a “SAFER” Sudan project, an integrated, multi-sectoral approach that combines strengthening sustainable livelihoods, economic empowerment, access to basic services, promoting adaptive capacity, protection and conflict mitigation in the current context. The main goal is to enhance socio-economic integration of children and young people and protection of the human rights of groups at risk in displacement affected communities in Sudan. In doing so, it will promote greater inclusion of women, youth, people with disabilities, and other marginalized groups in individual project activities, especially in the highly affected areas such as Darfur and Khartoum. The project is implemented in partnership with two INGO and several local partners with CARE International as a consortium leader. CARE is therefore looking for a committed Project Assistant who will support the implementation of the project activities in Khartoum. The Project Assistant should have a basic understanding of community-based programming, including economic empowerment, cash support, protection activities, referral pathways, child protection, and gender sensitive engagement with community structures. The purpose of this position is to provide operational, administrative, and field level support to ensure that project activities are implemented effectively and in line with CARE policies and donor requirements. The Project Assistant will contribute to meeting project targets through timely data collection, activity coordination, documentation, and communication with field teams and local stakeholders. The Project Assistant will report directly to the Project Manager and maintain a close working relationship with the Protection Officer, Economic Empowerment Officer, and Cash Officer. She/he will work with other program and support staff to facilitate planning, logistics, monitoring, and reporting. The Project Assistant will help organize field missions, mobilize communities, support registration and documentation processes, and ensure that activity records remain accurate and up to date. Attention to detail, strong follow up, and commitment to safe and inclusive programming are essential, together with a proactive role in supporting quality implementation and accountability to affected populations.
