The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) works worldwide to provide protection and humanitarian assistance to people affected by conflict and armed violence. We take action in response to emergencies and at the same time promote respect for international humanitarian law. We are an independent and neutral organization, and our mandate stems essentially from the Geneva Conventions of 1949. We work closely with the National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies and with the International Federation to ensure a concerted, rational and rapid humanitarian response to the needs of the victims of armed conflict or any other situation of internal violence. We direct and coordinate the international activities conducted in these situations.

THE PURPOSE 

In collaboration with, and under the line management of the hospital project manager and the technical supervision of the PRP manager, the Physiotherapist 2 contributes to developing, organizing, implementing, and monitoring physiotherapy activities, according to ICRC reference and the objectives set out in the delegation's annual planning (PfR) for Khartoum Center (KHC) Area of Responsibilities (AoR) and other ICRC accessible areas as deemed necessary. Based on the skills required for this position, s/he has the capacity to ensure effectiveness of continuum of care where early rehabilitation contributes to a better impact on weapon wounded management. S/he builds capacity of physiotherapists and healthcare workers, by training and coaching them to offer adequate quality services to people affected by armed conflict, other situations of violence and emergencies. S/he is a full member of the interdisciplinary surgical and rehabilitation team which ensures patient-centred care within an ICRC supported structure as well as in outreach activities during emergency and non-emergency situations.

• Implements ICRC physiotherapy standards and promotes best practices within hospital teams, specifically focusing on the management of complicated and complex cases.
• Ensures a seamless transition for patients by developing referral pathways and linking them to further rehabilitation or vocational services post-discharge.
• Leads and assesses the physiotherapy team, providing regular feedback and coaching to ensure sustainable, high-quality clinical practice.
• Designs and delivers professional training programs and tailored materials based on ICRC protocols and internationally validated recommendations.
• Advocates for early rehabilitation in hospital settings and raises awareness regarding the physical rehabilitation needs of weapon-wounded patients.
• Collaborates with the PRP Manager on technical solutions, "Planning for Results" (PfR), and the development of project budget proposals.
• Evaluates the quality and effectiveness of services using institutional tools, ensuring coherence between data collection and reporting systems.
• Manages logistical and financial workflows, including cash forecasts and supply requests (SRs), to prevent delays in project implementation.
• Produces timely technical and quarterly reports while managing institutional databases to ensure the secure handling of clinical records.
• Represents the ICRC professionally in meetings with local authorities, academia, and partners, maintaining updated stakeholder mapping and institutional image.

CERTIFICATIONS / EDUCATION REQUIRED

• Degree in physiotherapy (bachelor’s or equivalent with a minimum of 3 years of university studies) and a valid license to practice in country of residence.
• Relevant additional degrees (e.g. public health, acute hospital or rehabilitation techniques) an asset.
• Fluent command of English and Arabic. 
• Computer literacy.

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

• 3-5 years' postgraduate experience and up-to-date professional knowledge.
• Teaching experience and skills are strong assets.
• Experience with INGOs, the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement and/or multicultural or low-resource contexts are strong assets.
