 Background:

 SUDO is an independent, secular, nongovernmental, non-partisan and non-profit making organization established in April 2001 and dedicated to the promotion and the protection of human rights, peace building, support human basic services and development. In particular, the sector includes: FSL, Health, Nutrition, Protection, WASH, and cash programs.  SUDO is currently operating through 13 well-established field offices. 



 
 Duties and responsibilities:

Under the direct supervision of the Project Manager, the Protection and PSEA officer will be responsible for:

  • Ensure effective and efficient implementation of protection activities, according to the workplan in consultation with the project manager and Head of Offices. 
  • Develop a detailed workplan in line with the overall project workplan.
  • Ensure that all stages of implementation (from assessment to provision of assistance) are relevant and adhere to plans and criteria developed and agreed upon with the project manager. 
  •  Facilitate training of staff and local initiatives on protection mainstreaming and protection-specific areas.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to MAGs/initiatives, particularly the specialized ones on protection  
  • Document the lessons learned and provide recommendations for program development. 
  • Work closely with the MEAL officer to ensure protection activities and mainstreaming are well captured in all MEAL elements.
  • Participate in projects design and proposals development in the area of protection and ensure protection mainstreaming throughout the projects.
  • Ensure gender sensitive, inclusive and participatory processes throughout protection interventions.
  • Lead on the implementation of PSEA and work as a focal point for it for all SUDO operational areas.
  • Provide training on PSEA for all staff, particularly the project staff, within the first month of recruitment and regular training throughout the contract period. 
  • Ensure there is an effective mechanism for the implementation of the PSEA policy.    
  • Participate in the protection, CP and GBV sector meetings at state levels, report on 5Ws and exchange information/updates.  
  • Any other tasks requested by the supervisor/s.

 
 Minimum Qualification, Skills and Experience Required:

  • Master's degree in Social Studies or a relevant field.
  • More than five years of experience working in protection in humanitarian and development contexts with I/NGOs. 
  • Commitment and ability to foster and support capacity building of own staff and of local initiatives. 
  • Fluent written and spoken English and the ability to write clear reports for a wide range of audiences.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to influence, communicate and negotiate with a wide range of people and organisations with tact, diplomacy, and sensitivity to cultural differences. 
  • Ability to work to agreed deadlines.
  • Ability to think analytically and plan strategically.
  • Ability to live and work in often arduous conditions and undertake necessary travel in the country.
  • Understanding of OCHA ONEGMS is an advantage
