Background: ROLE PURPOSE Save the Children is the world’s leading independent organisation for children. We work in around 100 countries. We save children’s lives; we fight for their rights we help them fulfil their potential. We work together, with our partners, to inspire breakthroughs in the way the world treats children and to achieve immediate and lasting change in their lives. This role is intended to support Save the Children’s commitments to the Core Humanitarian Standard and the Grand Bargain Participation Revolution, as well as our commitment to put child rights at the center of what we do. The Children & Youth Participation Coordinator will work to put the children, Youth and communities we serve at the center of our programs through supporting the response to integrate child-friendly, gender-sensitive, inclusive, accessible and appropriate accountability systems and child participation. He/She will be working with Technical Specialists to develop adolescents & youth strategies. In close coordination with the program operations team, the CYPC will provide technical guidance and oversight in the development, implementation, monitoring and reporting of all adolescents/youth activities. The post holder will play a facilitative and coordination role to support thematic technical advisers, programme implementation teams, safeguarding, MEAL and advocacy teams to integrate meaningful and ethical child and youth participation within their work. The post holder will be expected to mentor and/or capacity build existing country programme and partner staff.

Duties and responsibilities:
KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY Strategic Planning and Programme Development - Actively participate in the development and review of country strategy and thematic programme plans.
- lead on Children and Youth,and community engagement strategies in collaboration with other technical sectors.
- Thematically guide and negotiate Children, youth and adolescent inputs into strategic documentation, policies and guidance (including integration and mainstreaming into other sectors)
- Provide technical inputs to project design, ensure high quality technical approaches
- Ensure that programme strategy supports and demonstrates good practice in participation, inclusion, child safeguarding and gender mainstreaming.
- Using a child rights programming lens, ensure that our programming is built around the Theory of Change and aligns with Global Initiative strategic directions.
Leadership and strategy - Provide technical inputs adolescent and youth focused advocacy initiatives
- Support the CO to develop and implement a strategy that is informed by children’s voices and promotes their rights, and ensure Youth and adulenats participation in design and implmentaion of the strategy.
- Capacity build and mentor staff and partners
- Support other technical experts to understand and contextualise global and regional.
Programme Quality - Monitor and provide timely, relevant, accurate input on overall technical aspects of Save the Children and Youth programming in Sudan.
- Liaise with the Programme Operations department to ensure all programme staff receive the necessary and appropriate technical support. In consultation with staff and project managers agree on the range of advice, support, training and/or other assistance required from you to facilitate learning and impactful programming and ensure it is delivered in a timely fashion.
- The position will be required to travel 40-50% of the time to Save the Children program locations.
- Assist in the development of tools for project staff and partners to improve children and youth participation.
- Ensure appropriate M&E tools to capture key outcomes, including voice of children and Youtht wellbeing.
- Contribute to research agendas; drawing together evidence of impact
- Where external consultants (local or international) are required to technically support or monitor and evaluate projects, lead the recruitment and subsequent management of contracted consultants.
Communicattion , External engagement and partnerships - Provide internal communications support across projects showcasing participation and impact successes, lessons learnt and efforts.
- Monitor and disseminate external trends on innovation – reports/conferences/funding opportunities and key insights
- Provide support for the development/updating of donor materials related to innovations
- Support knowledge sharing across by capturing and sharing best practices, success stories and lessons learned
- Write communications materials for diverse and relevant audiences
- Represent Save the Children in any relevant external networks with partners, donors and government
- Maintain a continuous mapping of potential CSO partners to advance our work
Work with relevant government institutions Children and community participation - Review the country office’s pre-existing child participation programming and networks (including child-led organisations), identifying how these could be capitalised upon within the emergency response. Where appropriate, support existing country office Child Rights/Child Participation staff to engage and offer expertise to the response.
- Work in a facilitative manner to support technical advisers and programme implementation teams to develop plans for child and community participation across the programme cycle (needs analysis and assessment, design and planning, implementation, and M&E) for their thematic area, considering opportunities for integration between sectors where possible.
- Act as the Save the Children focal point for the inter-agency children’s consultation in collaboration with other beer orgnization.
- Support safeguarding teams to imbed child and community participation within their work, for example collaborating on participatory risk assessments.
- Support the advocacy and media/comms teams to integrate meaningful and ethical child participation within their initiatives, and to elevate the voices of children that arise through participatory work across the response.
- Support child participation in response-wide processes, such as Real Time Reviews.
- Explore how child-centred social accountability approaches could be incorporated within as soon as possible within the response or in protracted crises.
Capacity building - Assess the priority skills gaps and learning needs relating to AAP and child participation within the response team and partners. This should include frontline workers and volunteers and support staff such as HR, administration, security, etc., who all have a role to play in improving the accountability of Save the Children.
- Develop context-specific capacity building materials by contextualising global and/or national tools.
- Identify opportunities to integrate AAP and child participation elements into existing training and tailor content to target the specific audiences.
Evidence and learning - Document context-specific good AAP and child participation practices, to support replication by other country offices and responses.
- Support research into AAP and child participation within the response, and/or provide advice to research that will have participatory components.
Other - Participate actively in PDQI team meetings, planning and review activities, providing enhanced insight into programming.
- Actively participate in key relevant internal meetings
- Participate in any donor meetings or visit to project(s) within the country office portfolio, as required.

Minimum Qualification, Skills and Experience Required:
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE Bachelor degree in related field Essential: - Self-starter, motivated, creative and collaborative
- Exposure to either NGO efforts/child or youth-centred work/start-ups
- Demonstrated experience in community engagement, children and Youth participation.
- Open to collaborate without judgement, listen, give things a try and share power.
- Demonstrated experience supporting people to develop, leading workshops or trainings
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, especially working with multicultural teams.
- Strong results orientation, with the ability to challenge existing mindsets.
- Demonstrated experience collaborating, bringing partners and communities together
- Experience in building personal networks, resulting new opportunities for the organisation.
- Commitment to the Save the Children values and willingness to abide by Save the Children’s Child Safeguarding Policy.
- Fluency in English and Arabic, both verbal and written, required.
Desirable: - Former training in human-centred design
- Demonstrated experience of project design and proposal development.
