 Duties and responsibilities:

Position Summary: The Nutrition Officer will be responsible for the effective implementation, coordination, and supervision of nutrition interventions aimed at improving the nutritional status of vulnerable populations in Gedaref. The role includes managing day-to-day program activities, ensuring proper documentation, and supporting monitoring and evaluation efforts to maintain program quality and accountability. The Nutrition Officer will also provide technical support and on-thejob training to nutrition staff across all RI-supported health facilities, promoting adherence to national nutrition protocols. In addition, the position will ensure timely and appropriate response to nutrition-related emergencies, in close coordination with relevant stakeholders and partners. Position Responsibilities and Duties: Program Implementation  Supervise the implementation of nutrition programs across supported health facilities, ensuring adherence to organizational and national protocols.  Assist the Health and Nutrition Coordinator in providing technical support to nutrition teams for the delivery of essential nutrition services, including: o Outpatient Therapeutic Program (OTP) o Targeted Supplementary Feeding Program (TSFP) o Infant and Young Child Feeding (IYCF) promotion o Micronutrient supplementation o Community mobilization and other preventive nutrition services o Inpatient management program (SC)  Support the training and capacity-building of Community Nutrition Volunteers (CNVs) in all aspects of essential nutrition services.  Organize and conduct nutrition and health education sessions at health facilities and in the community, promoting key messages on CMAM, IYCF, and other nutrition practices.  Liaise with SMOH nutrition staff and community members to monitor and strengthen nutrition activities in operational areas.  Establish and maintain referral systems linking vulnerable groups to nutrition and health services.  Coordinate with RI partners to explore opportunities for service integration and strengthen collaborative efforts.  Support planning, monitoring, and logistics systems for all nutrition activities, ensuring program efficiency and quality.  Monitor nutrition supplies at health facilities and RI warehouses, coordinating closely with Medical Logistics Officer.  Coordinate with the finance and logistics departments to ensure the timely procurement and delivery of all program supplies  Assist the Health and Nutrition Coordinator at the state level in monitoring the nutrition situation, including participation in assessments, surveillance, and program reviews, ensuring equity and quality of interventions.  Ensure that all program activities comply with humanitarian standards and organizational guidelines.  Supervise, appraise, and identify training needs for nutrition staff at health facilities to strengthen program capacity and service delivery. Community Mobilization and Integration  Plan and implement community outreach activities to promote nutrition, CMAM, IYCF and other preventive health practices.  Train and support Community Nutrition Volunteers in outreach, home visits, and follow-ups.  Organize education sessions, campaigns, and behavior change communication activities.  Engage local leaders, SMOH staff, and community organizations to enhance program acceptance and participation. MEAL  Ensure accurate data collection and timely submission of CMAM, Prevention, and IYCF database monthly.  Participate in joint monitoring visits with the MIYCF Supervisor, Health team, WASH team, and SMOH  Document and share success stories, challenges, and lessons learned to support program improvement.  Contribute to monthly and quarterly donor and cluster reports Coordination and representation with/in the relevant sectors  Coordinate closely with Health, WASH, and Protection teams to ensure an integrated and holistic approach to maternal and child health.  Liaise with SMOH, community leaders, and partner organizations to strengthen community engagement. Behavior and conduct  Ensures that behavior inside and outside of work promotes the values in RI’s code of conduct and safeguarding policies  Acts with integrity and holds themselves accountable for being respectful, inclusive and professional  Reports any RIs  Champion implementation of RI’s safeguarding policies, including PSEA, child safeguarding, and the use of complaints and feedback mechanisms.  Minimum Qualification, Skills and Experience Required:

Qualifications & Requirements: Education:  Degree in Public Health or Nutrition with three years of experience in nutrition programming in humanitarian settings. Experience:  Proven experience in compiling and submitting activity reports, including both statistical and narrative analysis.  Experience managing stock levels of nutrition supplies and equipment, coordinating with logistics teams for timely procurement, transport, and reporting.  Demonstrated ability to liaise effectively with other RI programs, implementing partners, and local authorities to ensure proper collaboration and coordination of activities.  Strong knowledge and understanding of Infant and Young Child Feeding (IYCF) practices and community-based nutrition approaches.  Experience in training, mentoring, and supervising community workers and health facility staff.  Familiarity with primary health care systems and the integration of Community-Based Management of Acute Malnutrition (CMAM) into health services.  Excellent communication, facilitation, and reporting skills.  Proven ability to work effectively under pressure and in challenging field environments.  Computer literacy, including proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Languages:  Excellent oral and written communication skills in English and Arabic
