WHO WE ARE

 

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) works worldwide to provide protection and humanitarian assistance to people affected by conflict and armed violence. We take action in response to emergencies and at the same time promote respect for international humanitarian law. We are an independent and neutral organization, and our mandate stems essentially from the Geneva Conventions of 1949. We work closely with National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies and with their International Federation in order to ensure a concerted, rational and rapid humanitarian response to the needs of the victims of armed conflict or any other situation of internal violence. We direct and coordinate the international activities conducted in these situations.

THE PURPOSE

 

The Mechanic’s Helper helps to maintain and repair ICRC vehicles and other logistics equipment under close supervision and according to ICRC standards. S/he contributes to always keeping all equipment and vehicles well maintained and ready for use.



 
 Duties and responsibilities:

  • Periodic refueling of vehicles and generators both in the Sub Delegation and residences
  • Supervise fuel receipt during delivery for replenishment and share the fuel balance with the mechanic to update the fleet wave database. 
  • Assists Carry out necessary service maintenance for vehicles, generators and share the repair details with the mechanic to create job cards in the Fleet wave database.
  • Perform routine ICRC vehicle checks and reports all the faults to the mechanic. 
  • Monitor and ensure vehicle and generator cleanliness 
  • Carry out period stock counts for spare parts to avoid stock outs.
  • Drive within Al Junaina town and in the field whenever requested
  • Travel to the field for mechanical support during vehicle breakdowns whenever required
  • Assists in conduct vehicle checks for both the ICRC and car rental vehicles before field trips.
  • Participate in driving tests for new drivers and mobile staff whenever requested
  • Ensures that risks are mitigated by performing the controls assigned to his/her role as described in the Logistics Risk and Control Matrix.
  • Assists other workshop team members when needed

 
 Minimum Qualification, Skills and Experience Required:

DESIRED PROFILE AND SKILLS

 

  • Strongly motivated by humanitarian work
  • Able to work under pressure in a potentially dangerous environment

CERTIFICATIONS / EDUCATION REQUIRED

 

  • Primary school education.
  • Basic command of English and/or French an asset.
  • Driving license
  • Basic knowledge of welding and electricity.
  • Knowledge of basic mechanical safety procedures.
  • Good knowledge of the local area and integration into a professional network
  • Good physical condition

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

 

  • Similar work experience desirable.
