 Background:

The Deputy Finance Coordinator supports the Finance Coordinator in ensuring effective financial management for the Sudan mission. The role includes budget monitoring, financial reporting, risk management, and capacity building. 50% of the role is focused on supporting projects and emergency responses across the mission.



 
 Duties and responsibilities:

Accountabilities

 

Main Responsibilities:

1. Financial Monitoring and Project Support

  • Support project teams by monitoring budgets, forecasts, and expenses.
  • Provide cost analysis and track expenses vs. budget regularly.
  • Identify budget variances and recommend corrective actions.
  • Ensure financial practices follow MSF ethical standards and transparency.

2. Compliance and Policy Implementation

  • Help implement and follow MSF financial policies and guidelines across the mission.
  • Ensure proper use of validation tables, approval levels, and money-handling rules.
  • Support field teams in applying financial procedures correctly and consistently.

3. Treasury and Financial Risk Management

  • Assist in managing mission treasury and cash flow planning.
  • Monitor financial risks, including currency inflation, and share updates with coordination.
  • Support proper use of third-party payment systems like Hawala, ensuring clear procedures and accountability.

4. Staff Training and Capacity Building

  • Support onboarding and training of new finance staff to ensure they understand MSF tools and procedures.
  • Conduct anti-corruption training for all staff and promote awareness of financial ethics.
  • Help identify training needs and strengthen the financial capacity of field teams.

5. Coordination and Support to FinCo

  • Act as the deputy to the Finance Coordinator and step in during absences.
  • Collaborate closely with project and coordination teams to ensure smooth financial operations.
  • Support in audits, financial reporting, and donor compliance requirements.

 
 Minimum Qualification, Skills and Experience Required:

Requirements

 

 Education
• Degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field (CPA/ACCA is an asset).


Experience
• 3–5 years of finance experience, desirable in humanitarian context with MSF, or INGOs.
• Experience in bank payments, reconciliations, and basic financial reporting.

 

Languages
Essential English and Arabic desirable


Knowledge
• Good command of Excel and finance software (e.g., UniField, WeFin, QuickBooks).
