 Background:

ROLE PURPOSE: 

Working closely with the FSL team, the Community Mobilizer will provide the primary point of contact with effected communities, households and children and be responsible for the efficient and effective implementation and monitoring of activities at the village level.



 
 Duties and responsibilities:

Main duties and responsibilities will include:

 

  • Responsible for mobilizing the communities to play an effective role in receiving immediate lifesaving livelihood support to rebuild and rehabilitate their livelihoods and assets.
  • Liaise with community leaders and households to introduce program activities and encourage community involvement in program implementation and monitoring.
  • Establish and strengthen community-based mechanisms and ensure they are up and running according to their terms of reference.
  • Assist Community members in identifying the most vulnerable household and developing action plans to address those risks on rebuilding their livelihood using the resources available in the community.
  • Facilitate community engagement and dialogues on creation of food security to promote food production.
  • Support in quality community-based dissemination of key messages on nutrition, dietary diversity, food preparation/ handling, use of energy friendly stoves, nutrition screening, and utilization, including hygiene.
  • Facilitate and provide gender awareness sessions to the community leaders and committees to enhance the participation of women in decision making regarding the food production activities. 
  • To conduct awareness and address some of the gender barriers and societal norms in situations of severe food insecurity identified earlier. 
  • Responsible to ensure that all community-based household’s networks are coordinating with each other, as well as with lead farmer groups, bee keeping and fishing group networks.
  • Provide continuous support to most vulnerable householders, farmers and fishing group and identify gaps in terms of the capacity-building needs, and actively contribute to building their capacity.
  • Support in conducting needs assessment in the target and surrounding communities with an aim to implement program activities in an effective manner.
  • Support community awareness raising activities aiming to promote food production, and security at community.
  • Plan, coordinate, and monitor ongoing project activities in collaboration and under the supervision of the Project Coordinator.
  • Design and implement outreach initiatives within target communities.
  • Support in the selection of the project beneficiaries.
  • Ensure the active involvement of target communities with a participatory approach.
  • Support the Coordinator in the organization of the training sessions to be realized.
  • Mobilize and network with the partners and the key stakeholders for the implementation of the project activities.

Monitor and supervise the activities implemented

  • Data collection and reporting.
  • Be the focal point and responsible for the implementation of MEAL procedure for the monitoring and evaluation of the project activities.
  • Report to the Project Manager on the status of implementation of the activities.
  • Translate and/or prepare the reports on project implementation to be presented to the donor/other partners, and the monthly project activity reports.
  • Maintain a high level of collaboration and coordination with all project staff.
  • Monthly reports in English are required. Possibility of reporting in Arabic according to necessity.

Ensure timely completion of project activities according to the weekly and monthly plans.


 
 Minimum Qualification, Skills and Experience Required:

Education and Experience:

  • A bachelor’s degree in agriculture, Development studies or similar field
  • Proven previous experience in Agriculture, Development studies or similar field development and mobilization. 
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in development programs, preferably working in food security and & livelihoods, and with experience in Community Support Projects.   
  • Experience in field work and community mobilization; and in training groups of beneficiaries.
  • Previous work with farmers required, preferably in a social work or agricultural setting. 
  • Good time management skills 
  • Experience in data collection
  • Experience in community mobilisation and familiarity with the targeted communities 
  • Good understanding of community politics and traditional networks
  • Experience in working with adults to promote the food production and security. 
  • Committed to implementing programmes that involve children and adult at all levels of implementation.
  • Flexibility and ability to work independently and in a team
  • Good English writing skills and research ability.
  • Ability to work in a team and under pressure and against deadlines.
  • Knowledge of INGO procedures.
  • Perfect knowledge of Arabic and local language is advantage. 
  • Knowledge and experience in gender issues and gender mainstreaming.
  • Computer literate: Microsoft Word and Excel.

Desirable: 

  • Work experience with farmers and families, especially knowledge of agriculture and food production.
  • Previous NGO experience, including an understanding of the neutral status of an international NGO.
  • Experience in community facilitation and mobilization.
  • Background knowledge in agriculture, education, and emergencies
