 Background:

ROLE PURPOSE: Child Protection Case Worker has responsibility to initiate, oversee and support the implementation of case management strategies and activities at the camp/community level. The CP Case Worker will be responsible for implementing the work of and providing guidance to the Community on case management and child protection activities. This position will be primarily responsible for conducting Best Interest Assessments (BIA), case management for vulnerable children, along with facilitating psychosocial and information sessions for children and their families.

 

SCOPE OF ROLE: 

Reports to: Case Management Supervisor  

Dimensions: The Child Protection Case Worker will be responsible for managing and providing case management services to children and their families using SCI Step-to-Protect approach. The Child Protection Case Worker will provide holistic and comprehensive case management services to the most vulnerable and at-risk children through identification, registration, care plan establishment, referrals, direct service provision, progress monitoring and case closure. The Child Protection Case Workers will implement Save the Children’s alternative care package in the location



 
 Duties and responsibilities:

Key Area 1: Management of child protection case management services 

  • Conduct identification, assessment, documentation, case planning, service provision and referral (to relevant services) and follow-up of at-risk children and families.
  • Provide case management services and alternative care are in line with the Inter-Agency Case Management Guidelines and the Foster Care Guidelines.
  •  Ensure children receive individual case management support by conducting registration, detailed assessments, case plans, direct service provision, referrals and follow up support for an assigned caseload of children, in line with Case Management SOPs.
  • Conduct Family Tracing for appropriate alternative care arrangements for Unaccompanied and Separated Children (UASC), including foster care, supported independent living and support to separated children. 
  • Conduct identification and screening, as well as follow up and monitoring, for foster families.
  • Participate weekly case management meetings with all case workers.
  • Conduct case planning and follow up of cases, and ensure all cases are managed within acceptable timeframes based on case prioritization criteria.
  • Conduct follow-up and monitoring visits based on the child’s needs.
  • Ensure that urgent and challenging cases are immediately discussed with direct supervisor.

 

Key Area 2: External and internal coordination and representation 

  • Work closely with the CFS Animators, CPC members and community mobilization teams to ensure the effective identification of vulnerable and at-risk children.
  • Work in close collaboration with the community mobilisers to strengthen our relationship with the community and to strengthen the referral system.
  • Work with the child protection team to ensure close links between case management and our work with Child Protection Committees and in CFS 
  • Ensure internal referral mechanisms (with other sectors) are in place and cases are appropriately managed and followed up when referred.
  • Coordinate with other agencies offering case management services to children on referral and transfer of cases
  • Support community-based mechanisms, including selection, training and mentoring of para-social workers, as required, in collaboration with the responsible Case Management Officer.

Key Area 3: Data management and data protection principles 

  • Ensure that confidentiality, informed consent, the best interests of the child, Do No Harm, and other case management principles and best practices are adhered to throughout the case management process, including the utilization of appropriate tools and case management forms.
  • Ensure all files, registers and computer databases are used in an appropriate and correct manner and ensure Case Workers adhere to SCI’s Information Sharing and Data Protection Protocol 
  • Ensure accurate case files are completed and that case management forms are utilized appropriately 

Be able and willing to respond to natural disasters or emergency situations, when needed and any other task assigned by Supervisor.

 Minimum Qualification, Skills and Experience Required:

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

 

Working Experience: At least 3 years’ experience within a development organization and at least 2-year experience in the field of child protection/case management services.

 

Most relevant areas experience to this position include: 

  • Child protection, case management and child rights
  • Experience working with vulnerable and at-risk groups
  • Experience in managing field staff
  • Experience in providing/ facilitating training, meeting
  • Has good working knowledge on using MS Office, and internet
