 Background:

DataQ is a Sudan-based research and analytics platform dedicated to empowering data-driven communities through digital innovation and localized research. Established in 2022, DataQ has rapidly become a trusted partner for international and local organizations across all 18 Sudanese states, leading projects that blend methodological rigor with contextual understanding. Our work spans market research, humanitarian and development assessments, monitoring and evaluation (M&E), and capacity building for local actors.

 

Amid Sudan’s evolving humanitarian and development landscape, DataQ’s mission is to strengthen local accountability and improve evidence-based decision-making. Our team of researchers, analysts, and field experts combine quantitative, qualitative, and mixed methods approaches to deliver high-quality insights that inform programs, policies, and strategies.

 

The Research and Programs Officer will play a central role in advancing this mission by managing research operations, supporting methodological development, coordinating field data collection teams, and ensuring the production of rigorous, actionable evidence. This position requires a dynamic professional with strong analytical skills, a deep understanding of the Sudanese context, and the ability to translate data into meaningful insights for diverse stakeholders



 
 Duties and responsibilities:

The Research and Programs Officer will contribute to the design, implementation, and management of DataQ’s research portfolio across Sudan. Working closely with the Research and Programs Manager, the officer will oversee end-to-end project execution, from research design and data collection to analysis, reporting, and dissemination.

 

Key Responsibilities:

 

1. Research and Data Analysis

  • Conduct and oversee qualitative, quantitative, and mixed-methods research and analysis across humanitarian and development sectors.
  • Develop data collection tools, research guides, and protocols aligned with project objectives.
  • Apply analytical software such as ATLAS.ti, NVIVO, SPSS, STATA, or similar tools for data processing and interpretation.
  • Produce analytical reports, presentations, and data visualizations using Power BI and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ensure methodological rigor, data quality, and ethical research practices throughout all research stages.

 

2. Project Management and Coordination

  • Coordinate and manage research projects from planning to completion, ensuring adherence to budgets, timelines, and deliverables.
  • Supervise and support research assistants, analysts, and field supervisors, providing mentorship and technical guidance.
  • Oversee field data collection teams, ensuring logistical efficiency and high data quality.
  • Facilitate coordination and communication among clients, partners, and internal teams.
  • Track project expenditures and support budget management and reporting processes.

 

3. Proposal Development and Client Engagement

  • Contribute to proposal writing, concept notes, and methodological frameworks for new projects.
  • Support client and partner engagement by participating in meetings, presentations, and feedback sessions.
  • Collaborate with the management team to identify new research opportunities and strengthen institutional partnerships.

 

4. Reporting and Knowledge Sharing

  • Draft and edit high-quality reports and presentations that synthesize research findings into actionable insights.
  • Present results to internal and external stakeholders through workshops, seminars, and knowledge-sharing sessions.
  • Contribute to internal learning processes by documenting lessons learned and good practices.

 

5. Capacity Building and Technical Support

  • Support capacity-building initiatives for Sudanese research actors, local partners, and enumerator networks.
  • Contribute to the development of training materials, guidance documents, and mentoring activities.

 

6. Marketing, Branding, and Communication

  • Support DataQ’s communication and visibility efforts by contributing to content development, social media, and branding activities.
  • Ensure consistency of DataQ’s messaging and visual identity across reports, presentations, and public materials.

 
 Minimum Qualification, Skills and Experience Required:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences, Development Studies, Economics, Statistics, Public Policy, or a related field; a Master’s degree is an advantage.
  2. 2–4 years of professional experience in research, program management, monitoring and evaluation, or related roles within the humanitarian or development sectors (experience with INGOs, UN agencies, or research firms preferred).
  3. Strong analytical skills with demonstrated experience in qualitative, quantitative, and mixed-methods data analysis.
  4. Proven ability to use analytical and statistical applications such as ATLAS.ti, NVIVO, SPSS, STATA, or similar tools.
  5. Experience leading analysts and field data collection teams, ensuring coordination, quality assurance, and adherence to research protocols.
  6. Strong writing, reporting, and presentation skills, with the ability to synthesize complex findings into clear and actionable insights.
  7. Demonstrated experience in proposal writing, methods development, and financial management within project settings.
  8. Excellent organizational, time-management, and multitasking abilities with high attention to detail.
  9. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel, PowerPoint, and Word, and familiarity with Power BI or other visualization tools.
  10. Experience in capacity building and mentorship of local actors or research teams is an asset.
  11. Deep understanding of the Sudanese context and up-to-date knowledge of political, social, and conflict dynamics.
  12. Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with fluency in English and Arabic required.
  13. Ability to work effectively in remote team environments, demonstrating adaptability and initiative.
