 Background:

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) works worldwide to provide protection and humanitarian assistance to people affected by conflict and armed violence. We take action in response to emergencies and at the same time promote respect for international humanitarian law. We are an independent and neutral organization, and our mandate stems essentially from the Geneva Conventions of 1949. We work closely with National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies and with their International Federation in order to ensure a concerted, rational and rapid humanitarian response to the needs of the victims of armed conflict or any other situation of internal violence. We direct and coordinate the international activities conducted in these situations.

 

THE PURPOSE

 

The Household Staff Supervisor ensures the cleanliness of ICRC premises by providing housekeeping services and supervising a team of housekeepers and other domestic staff and office cleaners.



 
 Duties and responsibilities:

  • Coordinates and manages household staff, including housekeepers, cooks, and gardeners, for offices and residences.
  • Prepares work schedules, duty rosters, and task lists to ensure an equitable distribution of work and continuous service.
  • Monitors staff performance and provides guidance and coaching and offers on-the-job training to improve service quality.
  • Ensures staff work in safe conditions with the proper equipment and implements hygiene, cleaning, and maintenance standards across all properties.
  • Conducts regular inspections to ensure compliance with safety protocols, identifies potential hazards, and reports them immediately.
  • Maintains accurate records of all household equipment, supplies, and furniture, and uses available resources efficiently.
  • Follows up on maintenance requests and works with the Premises Maintenance team to ensure timely repairs and upgrades.
  • Monitors and maintains stock levels of all supplies, manages inventory for properties, and works with the Procurement team to source quality materials.
  • Prepares monthly reports on cleanliness standards, inventory status, and staff performance, while also maintaining attendance logs and timesheets.
  • Liaises with other departments, such as Staff Health and Travel & Accommodation, to ensure all premises are "deployment-ready" and meet required standards

 
 Minimum Qualification, Skills and Experience Required:

  • Strongly motivated by humanitarian work
  • Able to work under pressure in a potentially dangerous environment
  • Higher school education.
  • Good knowledge of written and spoken English and/or French.
  • Over two years’ experience in the general upkeep of properties. 
  • Knowledge of basic hygiene principles.
