Background: Cooperazione Internazionale (COOPI) is an international Italian NGO established in 1965. Since its establishment, COOPI has been undertaking activities to help and empower the poor and needy in different countries. COOPI Sudan started its operation in 2004 and has been primarily implementing emergency, relief and early recovery programs in water hygiene and sanitation, food security and livelihood, nutrition and protection sectors. COOPI is currently implementing several projects in North Darfur and Khartoum in the sectors of WASH, Food Security and Livelihood, Climate Change adaptation, Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) and Refugee Response. The WASH Officer assists in implementing WASH project(s) in the field, follow-up activities in the field, and collects relevant information to facilitate project reporting. He/she establishes and maintains good working relationships with all project stakeholders and beneficiaries, including community leaders, local communities, implementation partners, and local authorities.

Duties and responsibilities:
Planning, Implementation, Monitoring and Reporting: - Plan and organize field visits;
- Disseminate project objectives and goals;
- Contribute to the project workplan;
- Contribute regularly to the implementation, monitoring and follow-up of WASH activities in designated field locations, in accordance to COOPI standards and policies;
- Propose adjustments or corrective measures when necessary;
- Facilitate training and/or informative sessions for the beneficiaries involved in project;
- Monitor the work and implementation of activities carried out by contractors and other external parties;
- Supervise daily workers if needed;
- Participate in needs assessments or other types of assessments, monitoring, and evaluation activities;
- Ensure liaison with targeted communities to facilitate project activities;
- Participate in the identification and selection of project beneficiaries according to set criteria, in consultation with communities if required;
- Collect information and data relevant to project activities and objectives;
- Share information with different project teams whenever needed;
- Conduct participatory monitoring and evaluation sessions of activities;
- Draft reports on activities carried out, contributing to project reporting;
- Compile, prepare and deliver weekly and/or monthly reports to the Engineer;
- Support the MEAL coordinator in the monitoring and evaluation of project activities, including baseline and endline surveys, pre and post surveys, lessons learned, needs assessments and evaluations;
- Report any suspicion of harm, including PSEA, during the implementation of project activities.
WASH Input, Community Engagement and Accountability: - Provide a technical expertise in WASH to contribute to reaching WASH objectives and results; including , but not only, technical expertise related to water quality monitoring, construction and rehabilitation of sanitation facilities, as well as, of water sources.
- Act as a focal point in the community to implement WASH activities;
- Provide technical support and ensure proper use of equipment;
- Prepare procurement requests and provide contractual technical input when requested;
- Provide trainings to the communities and/or committees aiming at strengthening and capacity building of community-based structures through training, sensitization workshops, awareness campaigns and regular follow up;
- Ensure Accountability to Affected Populations in line with COOPI standards;
- Ensure gender and disability mainstreaming in all activities, with special attention to those who are marginalized and overlooked in community decision making aspects are adequately considered during the planning and implementation process.
External Relations and Representation: - Establish and maintain contact with project interlocutors and stakeholders;
- Facilitate the communication between community representatives, committees, local authorities and relevant stakeholders;
- Liaise with the main stakeholders involved in the project, in coordination with the Engineer;
- Plan, organize, and facilitate meetings with project stakeholders;
- Organize and hold meetings with community members, CSOs/CBOs, and local authorities, including the locality and other government stakeholders, when needed and agreed with the project manager/assistant project manager.
Other: - Participate in donor visits and monitoring missions if required;
- Translate and/or interpret for COOPI staff and facilitate discussions and relations with project stakeholders;
- Perform general office work such as drafting reports, filing documents, photocopying, scanning, updating databases, analyzing and processing data, etc.;
- Report any problem encountered with accuracy and rapidly.
General Duties: - Is aware of COOPI’s objectives and activities in Sudan.
- Respects security rules at all time.
- Pledges to respect and act in accordance with COOPI’s Code of Ethics, PSEA Policy, and other applicable organizational policies.
- Replace other employees in their absence when necessary.
- The staff member may be asked to perform duties and tasks not covered in this job description as well as to provide support to other functional units when requested and necessary.

Minimum Qualification, Skills and Experience Required:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, natural resources management or any other relevant field;
- Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in implementing WASH activities;
- Minimum of 1 year of experience with international NGOs in Sudan, preferably more;
- Good working proficiency in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook;
- Good written and spoken English, very good Arabic proficiency;
- Good organizational, communication and interpersonal skills
