Background: The primary responsibility of the Medical Supply chain officer is to ensure effective and efficient implementation of the medical supply chain for SCI. S/he will ensure readiness of Medical Supply chain as it pertains to the selection, quantification, procurement,storage , distribution, maintenance of medical equipment and disposal of medical waste. The role holder will be responsible to handle and transport Vaccines. In the event of a major humanitarian emergency, the role holder will be expected to work outside the normal role profile and be able to vary working hours accordingly. Level 3: the post holder will have contact with children and/or young people either frequently (e.g. once a week or more) or intensively (e.g. four days in one month or more or overnight) because they work country programs; or are visiting country programs; or because they are responsible for implementing the police checking/vetting process staff.

Duties and responsibilities:
- Ensure that the selection, quantification, procurement, storage , distribution of medical items according to SCI policies and procedures
- Ensure that cold chain is well established, equipe and monitored with strict attention to all Cold chain requirements before and after receiving of cold chain items (Vaccines etc…)
- Ensures proper handling of Vaccines and Transporation and ensure sourcing the right vendors.
- Support in the relationship’s management with suppliers of medical items.
- Monitors implementation of the medical contract to ensure it is consistent with contractual agreements. Reports non-compliance to line management.
- Liaise with the procurement team to ensure the procurement of medical items is done per required standards and specifications
- Ensure the payment are submitted timely to Finance respecting all the Procurement File Checklist and keep a track of paper procurement files - from receipt of the PR or initiation of the procurement and identify what should be in the file and what stage the file is at.
- Keep the record of the medical Contracts and Framework Agreement and alerts line manager for expiring contracts.
- Notify the line manager of any other issue/challenge in the procurements of medical items which does not meet standards procedures.
- Monitor the storage condition of pharmacy warehouses at Country office and field office
- Ensure all medical items procured for programs/beneficiary's use are recorded in TIM and they are stored adequately at the pharmacy warehouse.
- Provide monthly, quarterly and annual updates on inventory status
- Ensure that Save the Children minimum standards of logistics procedures and country policies are implemented and adhered to in the area of responsibility, supporting relevant staff as required.
- In collaboration with other logistics team, support all logistical elements, and ensure quality standards of drug management are met include warehousing, cold chain management, stock rotation and control, pipeline management, consumption monitoring and ordering.
- Responsible for the maintenance of medical equipment.
- Ensure safe waste management of drug and medical supplies.
- Work with other supply chain team to take on other logistical tasks as required.
- Work with the logistics and medical team overseeing the reverse logistics of drugs and medical supplies and equipment. To review the National List of Registered Medicines and coordinate with the National Ministry of Health regarding the donation of unused medicines;
- Verify receipt of medical equipment, the operational status, and coordinate additional medical logistics requirements;
- Collaborating with other medical personnel to conduct training sessions for the use of medical supplies and explaining safety instructions and details
- Collaborate with relevant stakeholders to implement the general warehouse activities, including inventory management ensuring the warehouse is properly maintained, clean and organised per SCI standards.
- Participate in stock counts and support the field offices in conducting their stock counts
- Oversee distribution and transportation of medical items from the country office to Field offices or vis-versa.
- Ensures schedules are implemented effectively and staff/equipment needed for efficient medical warehouse operations are in place. Identifies and reports any issues with schedules to management.

Minimum Qualification, Skills and Experience Required:
Essential - Bachelor’s degree in pharmacy,
- 1-2 years of prior work experience in a similar role with international NGOs in humanitarian medical supply chain and cold chain management, medical warehousing.
- Previous experience of supporting first phase self- sufficient primary health care programmes
- Ability to work in and maintain a positive team dynamic in insecure environments;
- Demonstrated ability to work in a multi-cultural environment, and establish harmonious and effective working relationships both within and outside the organization
- Strong knowledge of medical items necessary in various clinical departments
- Skilled in assessing quality, price, and durability of medical tools and equipment
- A dept at distributing medical supplies to respective units before items run shortage
- Advanced computer navigation skills Especially excellent MS Excel/Word skills and PowerPoint and experience with online system
- Outstanding communication and organizational skills
- Detail oriented, organized with strong experience in requisitioning required medical supplies, ensuring appropriate bill payment
