 Background:

This position is responsible for leading the implementation of all primary healthcare aspects of SCI’s health programs in Gezira state.  Responsibility of the position will be to ensure primary healthcare interventions in the reproductive health sector, immunization, child health, communicable and non-communicable diseases, pharmacy, and other areas as needed. Health Coordinator will be based in Madani with visits to the field (if security allowed).  The Health Coordinator will work with the health program manager in Rest of Sudan, the HPI and program leads such as BHA led PM to ensure effective health and nutrition program in Gezira state. 



 
 Duties and responsibilities:

•Responsible for the development and implementation of a strong project work plan, that is designed to achieve the project’s stated goals and objectives, within the available staffing and budget.

•Responsible for ensuring that strong data collection and information management systems are in place for ongoing performance analysis and programmatic action, and that all members of the team know their roles and responsibilities for monitoring and evaluation. 

•Conduct program performance reviews for all primary healthcare programs on a quarterly basis, 

•Responsible for the management of health and nutrition program budgets in Gezira state, including the development of procurement and spending plans. 

•Ensure that proper drug management systems are in place and liaise for technical assistance as needed for all strategic aspects of drug management and supply. 

•Monitor evolving needs of the target communities, conduct assessments on health needs in new project areas and propose to adjust the programmatic priorities as necessary in collaboration with Health Managers and Program leads 

•Lead the implementation of needs assessments and support the technical design of such assessments Promote the quality of the SCI’s health programs by setting up quality assurance mechanisms and checks in collaboration with other staff.

In coordination with the program Manager and HPI, actively develop and maintain effective working relationships with key stakeholders, including government actors, UN agencies, international and local NGOs, and other relevant actors

In coordination with the program Manager and HPI, participate in local coordination meetings, and actively try to initiate more coordination among NGO and other civil society partners. 

•Represents to local communities, , local partners and donors as required

•Assist in identifying unmet needs in the health sector and explore the potential of IRC in addressing those needs

•Participate in the development of new proposals and initiatives for the SCI health program in line with the Red Sea health annual / Strategic Plan and the outcomes and evidence framework

Ensure the timely submission of information for donor reports for all health projects, including reporting against the logical framework. 

•Review all reports prepared by the field staff and provide appropriate feedback to the concerned staff and ensure that reports are written and submitted to concerned bodies in a timely manner. 

•In collaboration with program managers, review Budget vs. Actual expenditure for health programs monthly with staff.

•Prepare information about SCI program activities as needed

 

 


 
 Minimum Qualification, Skills and Experience Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in medicine, or public health with experiences 3-5 years in health services and program management.
    Highly organized approach to Project Management
  • A significant work experience in humanitarian and development programs internationally.
  • Experience in project management and project management cycle, including design, implementation 
  • Demonstrated field experience.
  • Knowledge of Red Sea context
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Programme design skills, including capacity to prepare logical, coherent, and consistent documents including log frames.
  • Prior demonstration experience for institutional donors (e.g. ECHO, USAID, UNICEF, EU.)
  • Good understanding of donor requirements and reporting mechanisms.
  • Ability to work efficiently and effectively with project members in various locations and from multiple organizations, including remote writing and revising relevant documents.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Ability to analyze and summarize information.
  • Ability to work calmly under pressure in a rapidly changing context.
  • Willingness and ability to travel to the field to conduct assessments and gather primary data.
  • Prior experience of facilitating multi-stakeholders’ workshops and dialogues.
  • Fluency in written and spoken English and Arabic.
  • Commitment to and understanding of Save the Children’s aims, values and principles including rights-based approaches.
  • Commitment to SCI goals and principles; in particular, an understanding of the mandate of SCI and its focus on children and the ability to ensure that this approach is the foundation of our commitment.
