SUMMARY: Under the supervision of the Protection Manager, the GBV and Protection Officer will be responsible for leading GBV and Protection activities in the state, ensuring proper mainstreaming of GBV, child protection, and general protection across all activities being implemented throughout RI project sites. This includes providing technical support, conducting relevant research and analysis, supporting supervision visits, and conducting training activities aimed at building the capacity of national counterparts, program managers, service providers, and policymakers. This position is based in PS, with travel required within the state.

Duties and responsibilities:
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Roles & Responsibilities: - Provide on-the-job training to seconded and RI staff in health facilities/mobile clinics on topics related to child protection, GBV, and Protection. Identify the training needs of national partners and staff, and develop capacity-building plans through formal training, mentorship, and coaching.
- Support operational research, assessments, and situation analysis to identify challenges in child protection, GBV, and general protection and recommend appropriate measures for improvement within RI operational sites.
- Provide technical guidance and support to all project staff on GBV, child protection, and protection-related issues, including MHPSS (Mental Health and Psychosocial Support).
- Develop, implement, and monitor community-based protection strategies, ensuring the integration of participatory and community-based approaches in protection planning, programming, and strategies.
- Support the implementation of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for GBV response and other protection activities.
- Assist in the provision of comprehensive child protection case management services, ensuring adherence to the Child Protection Guiding Principles.
- Establish and manage feedback and response systems, incorporating feedback from persons of concern into program design and adaptation.
- Collaborate with relevant stakeholders to increase the quality and access to child protection, GBV, and protection services.
- Implement and maintain effective and efficient referral pathways for GBV and Protection cases.
- Support the State Ministries of Health (SMOH) and Social Welfare teams in designing and evaluating GBV and Protection Services.
- Review and analyze monthly Protection data, providing feedback to project managers.
- Ensure gender and protection mainstreaming in all RI activities.
- Build and maintain effective relationships with project partners, SMOH departments, and other stakeholders.
- Work with Project Managers to ensure the availability of GBV and Protection-related supplies, including PEP kits.
- Attend and provide feedback during monthly and weekly GBV, Child Protection (CP), and Protection Technical Working Group (TWG) meetings.
- Lead case management activities, supervise case workers, and ensure compliance with Case Management SOPs in the designated field sites.
- Prepare and implement weekly activity plans with line staff to ensure smooth execution of protection activities.
- Establish and strengthen Child Protection Committees, providing training and raising awareness on key issues, such as child marriage, and linking children to available services.
- Monitor and assess the implementation of programs to ensure case workers are following the correct processes.
- Ensure that all case management data remains confidential and is only shared on a need-to-know basis.
- Uphold the safeguarding policy and report any necessary concerns.
- Perform other duties relative to GBV and Protection activities as assigned by the Line Manager.
Representation/Coordination with External Actors: - Represent RI at sector working groups, coordination meetings, and other relevant stakeholder meetings.
- Share and explain RI’s mandate to relevant stakeholders.
- Build strong relationships with local officials, community representatives, UN agencies, and other partners.
- Attend and provide feedback in GBV and Protection TWG meetings.
Logistics: - Coordinate with programs, procurement, logistics, and finance staff to ensure the proper procurement, transportation, storage, and management of GBV and Protection-related supplies.
Safeguarding: - Uphold and promote RI’s commitment to safeguarding vulnerable communities.
- Ensure the safety of all individuals interacting with Relief International, consistent with our safeguarding policies.

Minimum Qualification, Skills and Experience Required:
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE: - University degree in social sciences, social work, community development, psychology, mental health, or relevant experience in Child Protection or GBV.
- Minimum 3 years of experience in child protection, GBV, and Protection work, with at least 1 year working with INGOs.
- Experience in capacity building, staff coaching, and mentorship.
- Strong communication skills; fluent in English and Arabic/local language.
- Good knowledge of local civil society organizations.
- Community facilitation and mobilization experience.
- In-depth understanding of child protection and community-based approaches.
- Strong computer knowledge and skills.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and adhere to tight deadlines.
- Flexibility and the ability to work both independently and in a team.
- Gender awareness and sensitivity.
- Experience working with children and families, especially knowledge of child rights and participation.
