Background: The Communications Specialist guided by NCA communication policy, donor requirements and pre –approved plans, will be responsible for the development and execution of a country-specific communications plan, aligned with NCA's communications requirements. This involves generating high-quality content, including IEC materials and success stories, alongside managing social media platforms and fostering relationships with media outlets. Furthermore, this role entails facilitating internal communication, supporting event planning, and building the communications capacity of local partners to ensure effective stakeholder engagement.

Duties and responsibilities:
MAIN TASKS Lead the development and execution of a country-level communications plan in close collaboration with the Country Director, Head of Program, Program Manager, MEAL Coordinator, and Head Office Communications Team, aligning with NCA’s mission and strategic objectives. Communication strategy: - Support the implementation of the communications plan at both country and field levels, ensuring coherence across all communications efforts.
- Develop and execute the Country Office (CO) communication plan in line with NCA’s global communication standards and donor-specific requirements for each grant.
- Collaborate with the CO program team and partners to ensure full compliance with donor communication and visibility guidelines.
- Uphold NCA’s branding and communication policies by ensuring all internal and external communication emails, reports, concept notes, and other materials—adhere to approved formats and standards.
- Produce high-quality written materials—including IEC materials, success stories, social media posts, and articles—in line with NCA’s standards and brand guidelines.
- Capture high-quality photos and videos from implementation sites and of rights holders, ensuring adherence to NCA’s ethical standards and visual content policy.
Media management - With approval of the Country Director, manage NCA’s Country office social media accounts including Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn, this includes content planning, posting schedules and engagement tactics following internal approval procedures.
- Monitor social media metrics and adjust management strategies based on performance insights to increase reach and engagement.
- Build and maintain relationships with local and national media firms to promote NCA engagement across its operations locations.
- Collaborate with NCA staff to collect timely updates, news, and success stories from the field for internal use and external dissemination.
- Support the planning and implementation of events and campaigns by contributing to communication strategies and developing relevant materials.
- Review and edit all outgoing reports, concept notes, proposals, and other communications to ensure quality, consistency, and alignment with NCA standards before submission.
Capacity Development - Strengthen the communication capacity of NCA program staff and local partners through training on branding, photography, storytelling, and producing high-quality visibility materials—including the use of NCA-approved AI tools.
- Identify and articulate the communication and visibility requirements of each grant, working closely with program teams to ensure these are effectively integrated into project implementation.
Organizational and learning - Document lessons learned, success stories, and best practices from programs. through written, visual, and digital formats.
- Create briefs, infographics, videos, and other materials that communicate key insights and support organizational learning.
- Support internal communications, learning events, and cross-team collaboration to ensure effective knowledge exchange.
- Promote adaptive learning by incorporating community feedback and documenting innovative practices for wider use.

Minimum Qualification, Skills and Experience Required:
Education - Master's degree in communications or any related field.
Experience - At least 10 years of experience in communication.
- At least 5 years of experience working at INGO/UN level.
- Working in various contexts is an advantage (emergency, recovery, development, IDPs, refugee).
- Has experience in leading/participating in conducting communications tasks such as development communications engagement plan, social media management, taking photos/videos, editing … etc.).
Skills - Exception command of English and Arabic languages.
- Excellent writing and editing skills.
- High level skills in designing and content creation tools.
- Strong interpersonal, organizational, and planning skills.
- High level of innovation and creativity.
- Fluency in English and Arabic (both written and spoken).
Knowledge - High level of understanding of humanitarian and development context with knowledge about Sudan context and associated dynamics.
- Has a good level of understating of the Core Humanitarian Standards and other related standards of humanitarian aid work.
- Good knowledge about Sudan context generally with good level of understanding of NCA’s operation areas.
