Position Summary: 

RI is seeking for a motivated person to support the RI-Sudan humanitarian program portfolio. The Grants and Communication Officer will support the overall grants management and communication strategy, ensuring the effective coordination of grants activities, donor reporting, compliance, and internal/external communication. This role plays a crucial part in maintaining donor relations, supporting project teams, and ensuring that all communications reflect the organization’s mission and objectives. The role will be fully responsible to ensure that all information and data from the field is captured, documented, analyzed and reported in a results-based and timely manner for donors and internal purposes for RI Sudan. This includes, but is not limited to, heavy support initiating, managing and finalizing grants, communication, and information management, as well as assisting programs team in other grants related and communications tasks and concerns. 

 

We are looking for a resourceful candidate with good planning and problem-solving abilities. Must be a quick learner who works well in a dynamic role and able to organize, track, and manage complex information. 



 
 Duties and responsibilities:

Grants Management (30%)

  • Draft, review, and finalize project documentation, success stories and donor reports.
  • Actively participate in project startups, ensuring alignment with donor requirements and internal protocols.
  • Monitor grant deliverables, timelines, and budgets, flagging risks and delays to senior management.
  • Conduct regular grants review meetings with program, finance, and MEAL teams to track progress and address bottlenecks.
  • Develop, review, and coordinate high-quality donor concept notes, proposals, and reports.
  • Ensure compliance with donor regulations and adherence to Relief International’s grants management guidelines.

Communications Oversight (40%)

  • Supervise the Communications Officer to ensure effective implementation of RI’s communication strategy in North Darfur.
  • Lead the development and dissemination of communication materials, including success stories, newsletters, and media content.
  • Ensure donor branding and visibility requirements are adhered to across all communication outputs.
  • Oversee the planning and execution of external and internal communication activities, including press releases and field visits.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for all communications-related activities in sudan.

Program Support and Startups (20%)

  • Support project startups by coordinating with program teams, ensuring all required documentation is completed and submitted on time.
  • Lead the organization and facilitation of program startup workshops, ensuring clarity of roles and responsibilities among teams.
  • Work closely with field staff and sector leads to establish realistic implementation plans for new projects.

Capacity Building (10%)

  • Train staff and partners on photo documentation and communication best practices.
  • Identify capacity gaps within the team and develop tailored capacity-building initiatives.
  • Mentor the Communications Officer to enhance their skills in media, storytelling, and community engagement.

  • Consistent with RI’s safeguarding and protection policies, contribute to ensuring that all those who come into contact with Relief International staff and the communities we serve can be trusted to work safely with them 

 
 Minimum Qualification, Skills and Experience Required:

  • A degree in Communications, Journalism, International Development, or a related field.
  • At least 4 years of experience in grants management and communications, preferably in a humanitarian or development context.
  • Proven expertise in drafting donor reports, concept notes, and proposals.
  • Strong supervisory and leadership skills with experience managing teams.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and Word.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English; Arabic proficiency is an advantage.
  • Knowledge of donor regulations, particularly USAID/BHA, ECHO, and UN agencies, is highly desirable.
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize, and thrive in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English. 
  • An overall ability to be clear and concise in all communications and build internal and external relationships 
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills; proven ability to prioritize and deliver on time 
  • Ability to work both independently and in a dynamic, cross-functional global team structure 
  • Highly proficient in Microsoft Office suite, especially Excel 
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with stakeholders 
  • Ability to manage and fast-paced coordination of work in a positive manner.
