THE PURPOSE

 

The Forensic Program Assistant works in close collaboration with all members of the Forensic team in Sudan, as well as with members of other departments. S/he assists in the implementation and supervision of ICRC forensic programs/projects and activities in Darfur, in line with the strategies of ICRC Delegation with a view to reaching the objectives (including spending of budget) set within the delegation's Plan for Result (PfR).

 

REPORTS TO (ROLE)

  • Forensic Specialist


 
 Duties and responsibilities:

  • Provides technical and administrative support for forensic program and activities at the sub delegation.
  • Organizes the logistics and prepares materials for training courses and workshops.
  • Ensures the sub delegation has sufficient forensic materials and publications.
  • Participates in forensic-related meetings, briefings and training sessions for staff and relevant external stakeholders.
  • Provides oral and written reports on forensic issues; prepares mission reports. 
  • Disseminates ICRC information/messages on forensic science and humanitarian action.
  • Supports the Forensic Specialist in organizing the delivery of Forensic material assistance. 
  • Contributes to establishing and maintaining contacts with SRCS focal points, following up on their activities and on their needs for ICRC support. 
  • Supports in establishing and maintaining contacts with Forensic and other authorities as relevant. 
  • Participates in the field missions and training forensic sessions organized by the sub delegation to sensitize or train state and non-state responders on the forensic best practices.
  • Provides direct translation during the meetings, sensitization and training sessions when required, ensures the translation of the received FOR correspondences from Arabic to English and the training and communication material from English to Arabic.

 
 Minimum Qualification, Skills and Experience Required:

  • Strongly motivated by humanitarian work
  • Able to work under pressure in a potentially dangerous environment

 

CERTIFICATIONS / EDUCATION REQUIRED

 

  • University degree (bachelor or equivalent) in medical sciences and / or university degree in forensic sciences / criminalistics or related sciences.   
  • Forensic training experience and skills and capacity to adapt messages to diverse audiences.
  • Fluent command of English and Arabic language, 

 

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

 

  • Work experience in medicolegal practice and case work is an added advantage.
  • Previous experience with ICRC or another International Humanitarian Agency is an asset.
  • Experience in project management, training and supervision 
  • Strong sense of responsibility and adaptability, able to work overtime when needed. 
  • Flexibility and ability to work independently and with a sense of initiative.
  • Ability to cope with difficult situations (field, mortuaries, incident scenes, etc.)
  • Highly developed analytical, planning, communication and organizing skills.
  • To be able to travel and stay overnights working for the ICRC in the field (outside Aljunaina)
  • Understanding of cultural diversity, gender equality and equal opportunities
