 Background:

Established in 1949, SOS Villages International (CVI) is a dynamic international social development and humanitarian organization operating globally to meet the needs and protect the rights and interests of children without parental care and those at risk of losing it.

The Eastern and Southern Africa (ESAF) region of SOS CVI is headquartered in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, and has a branch office in Nairobi. It includes member associations (MAs) in Nigeria, Ghana, Ethiopia, Sudan, South Sudan, Somalia/Somaliland, Djibouti, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, Burundi, Zambia, Malawi, Zimbabwe, Mozambique, South Africa, Lesotho, Eswatini, Botswana, Namibia, Mauritius, Angola, and Madagascar.

As a Protection Field Officer, you will be responsible for implementing protection programs, conducting assessments, providing direct support to vulnerable children, and advocating for their rights within our organization. You will work closely with the Program team, communities, local authorities, and other stakeholders to ensure the safety and well-being of participants in the program. 



 
 Duties and responsibilities:

  • Develop, implement, and monitor child protection programs and activities by organizational policies, project objectives, and donor requirements compliance.
  • Provide direct support and assistance to children at risk of or experiencing abuse, neglect, exploitation, or violence.
  • Conduct assessments to identify children in need of protection and determine appropriate interventions.
  • Develop individualized care plans and provide case management support to ensure the safety, well-being, and rights of children are upheld.
  • Conduct training sessions and workshops for community members, caregivers, and local partners on child protection principles, child rights, and relevant laws and policies.
  • Build the capacity of local authorities and organizations to respond effectively to child protection issues and emergencies.
  • Advocate for the rights of children at the local, regional, and national levels, and engage with relevant stakeholders to promote child protection policies and legislation.
  • Establish and maintain partnerships with government agencies, NGOs, community-based organizations, and other actors working in child protection.
  • Monitor the progress and impact of child protection programs through regular field visits, data collection, and participatory monitoring techniques.
  • Prepare accurate and timely reports on program activities, achievements, challenges, and lessons learned for internal and external stakeholders

 
 Minimum Qualification, Skills and Experience Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in social work, psychology, child development, or a related field. Master's degree preferred.
  • At least 2-3 years of relevant experience in child protection programming, including case management and advocacy.
  • Strong understanding of child rights, child protection principles, and relevant international standards (e.g., UNCRC).
  • Experience working with children and families in crisis or emergencies.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and negotiation skills.
  • Fluent in spoken and written English, proficient in computers
  • Commitment to upholding ethical standards and maintaining confidentiality
