 Background:

Supporting the Watsan Supervisor in the implementation, monitoring, maintaining, and trouble-shooting of Water Hygiene Sanitation activities and infrastructure in the project according to MSF protocols, standards and procedures in order to improve health and living conditions of the target population.



 
 Duties and responsibilities:

  • Carrying out tasks directly related to the Watsan activities such as construction and maintenance of infrastructures in the project according to MSF protocols and standards concerning the operation of water supply, waste management and excreta disposal, hygiene and infection control.
  • Ensuring the cleaning and maintenance of the Watsan structures and when applicable, of the medical facilities;
  • Identifying, recruiting, training and supervising daily labourers or hygiene agents for Watsan activities
  • Informing the Watsan Supervisor of any difficulties, anomalies and problems that may affect the normal functioning of activities and tasks in his/her area of responsibility;
  • Assisting the Watsan Supervisor in Watsan data collection and reporting, as well as maintaining updated files and records of assigned project activities
  • Being responsible for equipment, tools, and consumables, verifying that they are safely used and maintained. Reporting to the supervisor any need of renewal and the weekly/monthly  consumption.
  • Install, maintain, fix and repair water supply systems including water networks, boreholes, and water tanks in Hospitals, base and IDP sites 
  • Rehabilitation and maintenance of sanitation facilities such as latrines, bathing areas, showers and waste disposal unit Hospitals, base and IDP sites
  • Conduct regular assessments of WASH infrastructure to identify needs for maintenance or upgrades in Hospitals, base and IDP sites
  • Daily monitoring of water supply systems for adequate flow and quality including chlorination Hospitals, base and IDP sites
  • Maintain water filtration systems in regular basis, ensuring filters are clean and functioning in both hospitals and base 
  • Monitoring of all the construction works related to WATSAN  (Saokaway wells, Grease traps, latrine and shower construction,  septic tanks etc ) and report to Watsan Manager on daily basis and discuss the challenges 
  • Responsible of all installation, rehabilitation and repair of plumbing fixtures such as faucets, toilets, sinks etc in all MSF facilities/intervention sites.
  • Fix any leaks, blockages, or water quality concerns in the hospitals, MSF bases etc. and report to the supervisor promptly
  • Give Support to the IPC supervisor in Assisting in the cleaning and maintenance of medical equipment and areas in compliance with sanitation standards.
  • Assist to ensure that restrooms are stocked with necessary supplies (soap, paper towels, and toilet paper).
  • Assist in and follow up when needed in the segregation of waste into recyclable, hazardous, and general waste categories.
  • Follow up and assist with the IPC team the collection and transport of waste to appropriate disposal areas.
  • Adhere to local health and safety regulations related to water and sanitation.
  • Report any non-compliance issues, safety hazards, or sanitation concerns to supervisors
  • Participate in training sessions on proper sanitation practices and emergency procedures.
  • Assist in training new staff or volunteers on sanitation protocols and waste management practices
  • Perform routine checks with the IPC on sanitation supplies and report needs for replenishing.
  • Assist with special water and sanitation activities or initiatives as directed by management.
  • Participate in the spraying of insecticide and provide technical support in the management of vectors (rats, mosquitoes, flies, cockroaches, termites etc.) in MSF sites.
  • Be flexible to intervene in the event of a cholera epidemic and other emergencies.
  • Respond to any other additional technical tasks related to watsan activities according to the needs of the project and the planning of his/her hierarchical supervisor.

 
 Minimum Qualification, Skills and Experience Required:

Education: Technical certification or proven background, desirable specialization in water and sanitation.

 

Experience: Previous minimum 2 years of experience in technical works (Hand skills in building  and Plumbing works essential).

 

Languages: Mission language essential, local language desirable.

 

Knowledge: Computer literacy.
