 Background:

Performing autonomously, complex / advanced servicing, maintenance and repair of MSF vehicles and other engines according to MSF standards and procedures, in order to ensure vehicles are in perfect running conditions.



 
 Duties and responsibilities:

  • Performing autonomously and ensuring, all necessary complex / advanced maintenance and repair of MSF vehicles and mechanical equipment to ensure they are in perfect condition for their use. This includes the following tasks : 
    • Performing maintenance according to the instructions in the logbook, ensuring all type of services to all vehicles are done on time (i.e. mini A, medium B and full C, and special services referred in logbook when possible). 
    • Testing all vehicles after each service is concluded and before it is handed back to its driver
    • Keeping record of vehicle’s driver remarks, and carrying out repairs if needed (vehicles and other mechanical equipment) and filling in service, repair or vehicle log book. Reporting to the line manager any problem related to MSF vehicles
    • In the case of a breakdown, making a diagnosis, informing the line manager and after approval carrying out any complex / advanced repairs needed. 
    • Following up the validity of all documents (annual inspections, insurance or any other required documents)
    • Assisting in the briefing or training of drivers regarding vehicle services and maintenance
  • Managing the stock of consumable items, filling in the stock cards, carrying out physical stock inventories, executing orders necessary for renewing stock, avoiding any shortage 
  • Responsible for the equipment and tools, including extinguishers, checking they are correctly and safely used, maintaining and renewing them when necessary and keeping the inventory updated. 
  • Keeping working area clean and tidy.
  • Ensuring that all record sheets and books related to maintenance are always completed and preparing needed reports before and after any repair or required maintenance.
  • Provide continuous mechanical support for vehicles, equipment, and generators deployed in Sudan mssion, ensuring operational readiness for both emergency and routine needs.
  • Identify potential mechanical issues and develop solutions to minimize downtime, including adapting equipment for harsh environmental conditions (heat, dust, unpaved roads).
  • Develop preventive maintenance protocols tailored to local environmental factors, optimizing systems like cooling for higher temperatures.
  • Establish relationships with supply team, request spare parts in a timely manner to avoid shortages.
  • Monitor and manage the inventory of mechanical equipment, spare parts, and tools for vehicles, generators, and other MSF machinery, ensuring that essential items are well-stocked and available for repairs.
  • Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair mechanical issues for vehicles and equipment in the field, especially in areas with limited maintenance facilities.
  • Provide guidance and training to local staff, improving their ability to perform repairs and maintenance independently.
  • Regularly assess the condition of vehicles and equipment based on local terrain and driving conditions, making recommendations for improvements to reduce repair frequency.
  • Ensure vehicles and equipment are ready for rapid deployment in emergencies and follow contingency maintenance plans for high-pressure situations.
  • Adhere to MSF’s environmental guidelines for waste disposal and establish environmentally safe practices in mechanical work.
  • Collaborate with logistics teams to align maintenance schedules with operational demands.
  • Troubleshoot and repair generator failures, provide ongoing support for power systems, and train staff on routine generator maintenance.
  • Offer feedback on vehicle and equipment performance, suggesting future adaptations to better suit Sudan’s conditions.
  • Ensure that mechanical work is done in compliance with MSF’s standards and local regulations, especially regarding waste disposal.
  • Communicate potential vehicle or equipment issues to the line manager proactively, ensuring alignment between mechanical needs and mission priorities.
  • Work closely with the field logistics and operations teams to understand the evolving needs of the mission, ensuring that the maintenance and repair schedules align with operational demands in the mission.
  • Perform any other relevant tasks assigned by his/her supervisors as necessary.

 
 Minimum Qualification, Skills and Experience Required:

Education: Essential diploma in mechanics or related studies.

 

Experience: Demonstrable mechanical experience. (Minimum 2 years experience).

 

Languages: Essential English language and Arabic language.

 

Knowledge:Essential driving license for vehicles.
